Just curious...

I am in Liberty township and a few months ago got an offer to buy my royalties for 1500 to 1800 per acre, but they would do a more in-depth look if I was serious which "mite change the numbers" slightly....even tho I am not drilled or receiving any royalties ..talked to a landsman rite b4 I contacted them and he advised caution as there will be "significant" activity in my area in the "near future"....how about it, anybody else get an offer or hear anything or see any activity here in Tioga Co. ?

Hey Old Timer

With all the rain and wet weather we have been having the last few weeks,  the entire county could be considered a "HOG WALLER"!

I am a little confused

I thought this thread was discussing TIOGA COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA drilling activities!

Hey Old timer......I am an old timer too.  80 plus years rooted on my property.   All my next door neighbors have long since died off and even some of the second and third  replacements  have passed on too.

Having said this,  the new oil and gas activity is really BIG  in the neighborhood!  I can remember back when the house I live in did not even have electricity.  Oil lamps were the source of light when I was a little kid.

I remember clearly when my Great Aunt would say, "Tuttle, better clean those lamp chimneys before you light them!"

No telephones until the 1950's and then open wire on poles.  Next to impossible to make a phone call until the neighbor ladies finally had shared the latest daily gossip.  A hand cranked magneto to alert an operator. The  women   would not even give up the line for a few minutes until I could find a dealer who had a repair part for my baler in stock.

"...any information out there that has the potential to affect NG production in Tioga Co..."
Photos of Cynthia Nixon and Andrew Cuomo??

NYS has but one ambition, and that is to one day surpass CA as the bastion of Progressive politics. In fairness though, at least California still allows (I think) horizontal fracing, but probably not for long.

Why don't they take a page from Iceland? Geothermal for everything, including some really cool blue colored hot springs open to the public. BTW, the rates would only have to rise less than 7% per annum to double the price in 12 years. I would sooner think the renewables in Hawaii will add costs a bit higher than that. Not to mention some really cool 300' tall 3 ton turbines, right in their backyards!

"Geothermal power facility induces earthquakes, study finds
An analysis of earthquakes in the area around the Salton Sea Geothermal Field in southern California has found a strong correlation between seismic activity and operations for production of geothermal power ..."

Good morning Ann

Since I cannot cut wood anymore I am thinking of putting in a small Geothermal to heat our house..  But certainly not a unit that will cause earthquakes.  Just a unit that extracts heat from the ground  water saturated from the many springs behind our house.

I recall our spring having a dusty film arise on water that has been standing overnight.  It was suggested that a stone quarry located a few hundred yards south of us had used some sort of blasting powder to loosen the layers of rock.. That film on the standing water persisted for several weeks.  This was back in the late 1960's or early 1970's.

From the article,

"The nearby San Andreas fault, however, is capable of unleashing extremely destructive earthquakes of at least magnitude 8, Brodsky said. The location of the geothermal field at the southern end of the San Andreas fault is cause for concern due to the possibility of inducing a damaging earthquake."

and

"It's hard to draw a direct line from the geothermal field to effects on the San Andreas fault, but it seems plausible that they could interact," Brodsky said.

Well that settles it! If this guy says it's PLAUSIBLE, then it must be true!

I will assume at least some of these high magnitude quakes happened and were recorded BEFORE the power plant was built?

Gee, does this mean the renewable energy folks didn't think of this??

Hmmmmmm.........

Bill: I'm not sure but I think this is too far north for geothermal to be practical. But have you priced firewood cut to your specification lately? There is a lot of panic "harvesrting" of ash trees. And there are 20-somethings who have about given up on finding one of those $75k o/g jobs.

Bullfrex: And the O/G industry's excuse for not considering this possibility when they increased the pressure of waste injection wells in Ohio?

Hello again OLD TIMER.   Maybe you can clue me in about a gas pipe line that was  removed  about the middle 1940's  parallel to Broughton hollow road.

The soil was dug up in a north to south direction sometime in the 1940's. Maybe earlier. I was told that ditch was dug all by hand. Uncle Charlie suggested to the boss man that it would go faster if  horses and plow were used to loosen the soil and then the men use shovels to throw the dirt out of the trench. Tuttle was told that the men needed the work or so I was told!

That trench was maybe 100 yards east of Broughton hollow road.

Do you recall anything about this pipeline?  Many years went by before the evidence, (change in color of dirt and the quality of  grass beginning to  be catch up to grass growing along side of this trench) actually disappeared.

I have no idea where this ditch started or ended.
