I'm a licensed landscape architect here in PA and am starting my own business after 14 yrs of working for various companies.  I'm very eager to become involved in the Marcellus Shale industry, particularly in the erosion and sediment control plans, permitting, and any form of restoration work be it streams, wetlands etc....I'm also considering as part of my business, a construction division (or design build may be the better term) that actually installs the restoration/ e and s designs etc....

is it best to market directly to the gas/exporation companies directly?

I would appreciate any insight anyone could offer.  Thanks!

Before you start to market to them you may want to check into the type of work you'll be doing and whether or not you'll need to be NFPA 21-12 compliant (protecting your workers against flash fire). Pretty much any worker that goes on the site is required to be in flame resistant garments. Having that on your rap sheet could give you a leg up. Shoot me a message if you need to find out more or how to become compliant.

Derrick,

thanks for the info, how do I become NFPA 21-12 compliant?

I think FR clothing is going to be the easiset thing you can get. A lot of these locations are literally a cut out moutainside. There are many large pieces of equipment like track hoes and dozers. The investment would be huge. Go to were they are building a site and look for yourself.
