The above link should take you to an article in the Marcellus Drilling News.

The article was also in the Cleveland Plain Dealer today.

A bad article.

Bad publicity.

Not even mentioning Ashtabula County by name (we happen to be the northeastern most county in our State).

As I have it, our Utica Point Pleasant is deep (4000'-5000') below the surface.

As I have it, our Utica Point Pleasant is thick (300'-350').

They qualify their article by saying more data is needed (wells and core drill data points) before they know for sure, but, then it would be better to not say anything - except drill the wells and get the data !

This article doesn't help our county generate interest in developing our Utica Gas and Oil deposits at all.

As always, all also in my humble opinion (IMHO).

What do you folks think ?

I have seen maps and articles that build up and kill our areas over and over again since this game started two years ago. In different articles these same maps justify major development in the exact areas they call "not so good" in this one. If I place my land in any of these journalists hands we would be dead 10xs over. The drillers know the truth. And frustratingly we are merely spectators.
Now from my knowledge there is a difference between gas, wet gas and oil. From what I have seen reported so far no one is BRAGGING ABOUT OIL! We see a lot of BOE but not BOD.So where is the OIL at?
All along we have been told and seen data that the OIL window is west of the current wet gas areas.
My guess is that perhaps the O&G are learning about flooding the market. Could it be their stratagy to secure the oil window quietly and hold it in reserve for the next major shortage to insure high return?
I still say that the lack of discussion of other formations and the potential of applying new technology makes thus issue rather elementary.

You mean they still call it Oil?  I thought they changed it's name so us dumb landowners would'nt know what they were talking about!

There will be a test well drilled about 1 mile south of the Ashtabula county line in Greene township sometime this year. If the out come is good on this well and others in Northern Trumbull. I would look for BP to get alot more acreage to the North in Ashtabula, just my thought!!
