Lets discuss here about the issues after the lease and well. Right of ways, production units, numbers of production units (each well has a production unit - some 6-8 wells in same area), number of acres in production units.

J A,

I found the records filed for units declared on our County Courthouse website. I don't know how your County website works, but on Beaver County's I search using a wanted timeline, say a few months back until present and then select to search the document type of "Miscellaneous". Who would have thought it would be a misc record? : )   This will return the declared unit records along with a few others that you will know have nothing to do with a unit. There will even be a map of the unit, typically on the last page.

I'm sure you could also just type in the company name that owns the leases in your area with the proper date and get the same results, but there might be a whole bunch of results to filter through.

Hope this helps.

Before drilling starts. Your county courthouse should have records of the different units,
Generally, chesapeake isn't filing the unit dec's in PA until well have production starts

Chesapeake filed the unit for the first well drilled in our County about 3 weeks after it started drilling there. A second unit was filed for a separate second well site that doesn't even have a rig onsite yet. I believe they are doing this because some of the leases in our area are real real close to being expired. I can think of no other reason.

As a side note, my brother has 180+ acres that the lease expires on next May. They put 4 tenths of one acre in the unit to tie him up. Now that sucks and I believe they should have their feet held to the fire over this. This just sounds unethical to me, but hey the big boys play for keeps. Just remember that!

Hey guys,   thanks for the info.  Most of the leases in our area will be up in about a year & an a half, they are at 5 bucks.  Thanks for the heads up, I'l watch the courthouse web site.
It would be great if you guys would name your area or county/

As mentioned above, I'm in Beaver County.

Drilling to the Utica is just getting started here.

I'm in Columbiana County, eastern Ohio, there has been a lot of land leased in the past year.

Paul, You have me confused. You say Chesapeake isn't going to file the unit, then you say that the well that is on your unit is almost completed. How do you know that you are in a unit if it hasn't been filed yet?

Paul, since we seem to be having just almost the opposite of that happening here, I can only imagine they are registering the units early here to tie up some of the leases that are starting to expire. There will be lots of leases expiring starting abit later this year and into next.

It just goes to show you that if you don't have their knowledge, you don't know the method to their madness.....but you can get some grip on it.

Hope things get moving along for you.
