We were going to the store out by Tusca Plaza. Two sand trucks turned off on Nevill Rd. I followed them and they went up the hill to the pad. Chesapeak has their SILENCE SIGN up. We stopped on road and could only here faint sounds, like fans running. The sign must really work!!

I was told that CHK is applying for vertical well permits just so they can HBP because gas is so low, and their finances are also low, that they want to just hold onto as much of this Beaver County land as possible until prices go up. They told me that the vertical permits are cheaper than the horizontal permits in fees.

Frank, What you say is probably also true. There is a myriad of things affecting their decisions right now like:

Shell cracker plant decision. No infrastructure in place. Lack of Money. Leases running out. New unkown potentials in the Marcellus and Upper Devonian. Low Prices.

I think that putting them all together you must come to the realization that we are probably in a nice sweet spot. One thing that puts it into perspective for me:  why would they seek permits for a vertical well on pads that already have horizontals drilled into the Utica(which I believe there are 3 or 4 in this situation) ... not needed to hold the land?

craig is right.  I have a friend in the industry.  there are many reasons to just do the vertical.  everybody is reading too much into this!

Just checked my list at work and there are at least 7 wells that already have a horizontal drilled that now have a vertical permit.

After reading Rex's report on the other discussion , I bet these verts. are to test the upper devonian. Rex claims it is 16% wetter than Marcellus , if  I read it right. We're in a sweet spot alright. Can't wait to see what the future holds!

Sounds good Glenn. In the meantime I'm enjoying the newly paved Neville Rd. This was not the usual lick&stick job that's so common, Lindy Paving spent a whole week milling and re-paving from Tusca to Jenkins.
