What are the possibilities for the Trenton Black River formation in Eastern Ohio to produce anything? Our original leases from over 15 years ago were for this formation. I never heard why the interest died. thank-you in advance.

Thanks, I was hoping for more science and experiences from people in the business. The facts on TBR in Eastern Ohio seem to be scarce. I based my decision to lease on advice from Terry Engelder. I am hoping that there is a comparable expert on the Ohio TBR on here that will feel free to contribute.

You can find a lot of data just with google,

I posted the Link to download the "Trenton Playbook" in the group Appalachian "Rome Trough" All Counties it is a big >100mb PDF file which covers exactly what the excitement was all about several years ago.

The features which create the trap are usually very narrow fractured, leached or dolomitized fractures which require good subsurface information to exploit, the close-osity or near-osity exploration method is probably what killed the play from a few years ago..

I would bet Beardsley had more than a few laughs when some of these guys were drilling wells by hugging up to the TBR producing acreage  trying to steal some thunder...

In the permit list it looks to me the Trenton & Black River wells are all Strat. Tests, could be they are just drilling all the way through the Point Pleasant for the information and most will probably be cored wells.

The Strat test will let them know what they have.

Some of the O&G outfits call these "INFORMATION ONLY RIGS" when they put out their rig counts.

That is my understanding as well. I'm still trying to find the link you mentioned. It sounds interesting.
