Good find, for the Tioga County connection   Where on Facebook was the link to the article?

I do question though whether TC is a suitable place for (profitable) organic farming.  Certified organic programs are costly to establish and I doubt there are enough TC residents willing/able to pay the price premium for organic products.

Absolutely true, Ann.  We couldn't even keep a farmers market going in Wellsboro; many people here think that 'local' produce should be half the price of whats in the store...they wouldn't even consider paying for organic.

I DO question the article for other reasons. I KNOW the Johnsons; they live a couple of miles from me. They are retired and have a small herd of beef cows; they keep them just to keep the pastures grazed, so it's not like their livelihood was taken away. They only have 28 cows ("dozens" the article says), and they don't even know if they drank any of the contaminated water.  An article from the time of the accident states: " "They're happy, contented, fat," Johnson said."  East removed and replace all the contaminated soil, and the Johnsons were well compensated for not being able to  send any of the cows to market. Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of dollars they got for leasing, or the money they will make in royalties. It still was their choice to lease and to allow a well on their property. I'm thinking more seriously about a non-surface lease; so I get the money and avoid the mess.

Ann,

one of my friends posted it to their wall...she is very against the gas wells and usually posts alot of links from anti gas well sites...
