Does anyone have any information as to Chesapeake's interest in Tioga county? And how they compare to other drilling outfits in the area? Do they pay their up front bonus money without hassle and how about their track record of clean up afterward?

I've heard that Chesapeake is now leasing in most parts of Tioga Co. Their offer is far better than East's (in some areas as much as $3000/20%/5). They've done a lot of drilling in other counties, and, from what I've heard, have a good reputation. A large company that acts professionally...from what I've heard they act responsibly, don't cut corners and DON'T play silly games (scaring people into leasing, reneging on leases, etc).

Unfortunately, I'm in the not-most part of Tioga Co. :(

In an article in yesterday's Times-Tribune, a Chesapeake spokesman was quoted as being in favor of forced pooling and a limitation on local zoning.

"Calling it the most economical and conservative land-use approach to drilling for gas, David Spigelmyer, Chesapeake Energy's regional vice president for government relations, said in a Times-Tribune editorial board meeting that "forced pooling" is a key element of any legislation the state's Marcellus drillers could support and is actively being discussed during budget negotiations in the capital.

Mr. Spigelmyer said he does not expect forced pooling to be adopted in the coming days as part of budget talks, but he said "an agreement" likely will emerge with the budget "to talk about (the severance tax) holistically" with other industry-supported legislation on forced pooling. ...

"We're willing to work with municipalities, but we're seeing ... an extraordinary number of ordinances that are coming into play that basically zone out development completely," Mr. Spigelmyer said. "We want to make sure we don't have ordinances in place that basically remove your rights.""
Personally I am not really in favor of forced pooling myself. As a rule, a long time family farmer likes to make his own decisions as to how his land will be used. Forced pooling takes that option away from him.

The ordinances are often the result of drilling companies not doing their job as they agreed to do, Like seeing the roadways are being kept up to a reasonable condition. And then there are the preventable accidents, spills and such.. When a drilling outfit starts hiding their sloppy activites. they should be shut down I think.

Lynn,

A Long (East) landman unexpectedly dropped by today. A little better on the money but it remains to be seen if they'll budge on the non-surface terms. Still positively no Pugh.

Anyway, Chesapeake did come up as he was showing me a couple township maps of leased/unleased property. Mostly leased by East with a few scattered Chesapeake (and Talisman) properties. My impression was that they have a good working relationship with Talisman, but not so good with Chesapeake.
