It is my understanding they can drill 6 to 8 wells on a pad.  I would assume they are drilling on multiple pads to hold the leases.   There would be a lot more wells if they did vertical drilling only.

Afaik East plans for six wells per pad in TC.  Assuming both well types are fracked, I wonder how long it would take to prepare the sites and drill a single vertical well on six sites vs drilling six horizonal wells on a single site.

I checked the DEP SPUD reports and the number of East wells drilled in TC in 2010 (thru 12/20) is 152.  By month:  Jan [8] Feb [8] Mar [8] Apr [22] May [12] Jun [15] Jul [17] Aug [12] Sep [27] Oct [10] Nov [7] Dec [6]

Ann; can you tell if they are doing multiple horizontal wells from one pad, or just drilling verticals to hold leases?

Unfortunately, I didn't look that closely except in Jackson/Rutland territory.  Here, they had been more likely to drill a single horizontal (rather than vertical) all along.  And, the second half of this year, East has been moving toward permitting/doing all six wells; either at once or the five additional.  (One thing the landman told me that actually was accurate.)   This may be because East and Talisman had Jackson/Rutland pretty much tied up early with T/BR leases. 

 

I just looked at one month's SPUD reports and it seems "Delmar" is a unique municipality name.  So, you probably could search on it rather than having to scan through all "Tioga" hits.  (In Sept., there were both horizontal and vertical wells started in Delmar.)

I was told by a East Landman that Shell's driller Nabors is moving more than a dozen rigs to the area before the end of the first quater of 2011. That is a serious commitment if true. It rivals what Chesapeake has been doing in Bradford County. 

 

Does anyone know where they are getting their water from?

 I heard the same story 18 rigs and they plan to hold all there leases when there done hbp.

We should know within a month or so.  If that's going to happen, it will be preceded by a substantial increase in permit applications, then unit declarations.
