Here is a “guessimate”, and how I arrived at it:
Volume = Pi r2 x 5280 feet/mile
Diameter of hole = 8”
Radius of hole = 4” = 0.33 foot
Volume = 3.14 x 0.33 foot x 0.33 foot x 5280 feet = 1805 cubic feet = 67 cubic yards
When you take something solid and bust it up, you introduce additional space.
Let’s guess an expansion of 20% 67 cubic yards x 1.20 = 80 cubic yards
Let’s say a smaller double axle dump truck carries 8 cubic yards, this would amount to 10 loads.
More realistically, semi trailer truck would likely handle it in 5 loads.
Again, a “guessimate”, one size fits most.
All IMHO,

Thanks Jack,
That's exactly what I wanted to know. That's a lot of stuff, especially if there is more than one lateral.

The cube root of 80 is 4.3.
80 cubic yards would be a cube 4.3 yards on a side.
80 cubic yards would be a cube 13 feet on a side.
That is about the size/volume of the average master bedroom in an American home.
I do not think that this is a lot of stuff; but it is relative, everyone has their own definition of large.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
