SHENANGO TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
A gas well fire forced the evacuation of several homes in Mercer County Saturday morning.
The fire started in the 200 block of Pulaski Road in Shenango Township about 5 a.m., leading emergency crews to evacuate homes within a one-mile radius.
Ray Babos was one of the people told to leave his home. He said he talked to the fire chief.
"There's a valve there that caught on fire, and what they were doing was waiting for it to burn out, and figured maybe a couple hours. But if it did not burn out, then what they would do is take and go in there with foam,” said Babos.
Emergency crews from Mercer and Lawrence counties responded to the fire.
No injuries were reported.
Pulaski Road was closed until 8:30 a.m. Residents in the area have been allowed to return to their homes.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
