If you haven't done so all ready, I advise you to check the status of your mineral rights. In Athens County, you can do this online (going back to the early '80s).…Continue

Starting to see some serious offers in Washington County. Keep your eyes and ears open. Time to make sure you have a marketable title and that all old leases have been properly released.
Offers in Washington County have passed the $2,500 mark. I know of at least one actual payout (check has been received and cashed) in Morgan County of $2,500 per acre. Anadarko's wells in Noble County are producing up to 3 barrells of oil per acre each day. Offers and drilling rigs are getting closer each day.

Comment by Ann Sowers on April 6, 2012 at 2:06pm Correction on #7, the well is in southern Hocking Co, near the Vinton County line. Still bodes well for Athens County in my opinion.
1. the O&Gs provide the data used by the ODNR
2. the O&Gs have proprietary info that they did not provide to ODNR
3. prices for Utica leases are growing at a faster rate than any other shale play in the US
4. the O&Gs want to bring prices down
5. discouraging news will cause landgroups to falter and bring prices down
6. there are no new data points for SE Ohio, particularly Athens County. Why did the map change?
7. there is a Utica well (verticle, not horizontal) on the Athens/Hocking boarder that produces nearly 100% oil.
8. the ODNR map defines the "Core Production Area". It does not mean that anything outside the defined area is worthless.
9. Hess just bought a bunch of existing leases in Athens County this year (2012). If we are worthless, why did they come here? You can find the deal on landaccess.com
10. Kaufman Realty has been auctioning properties in Morgan County (new maps place it outside the defined area as well) for $5,000 to $6,000 per acre as recently as February.
Patience remains to be critical for landowners. This thing plays like a poker match. I say they (the O&Gs) are bluffing.Hope this helps.
Comment by don humphrey on April 6, 2012 at 12:27pm Looks like Athens Co. is no longer considered in "the play" according to this. The geological map that the drillers have updated has moved north of Athens Co. Comments?
