To Lease or Not to Lease: Has Anyone NOT signed a lease? I'd like to hear why you didn't

My wife and I are part of a landowners group that is in the process of having their Range Resources contract reviewed by attorneys.  We only have 3.2 acres and have not decided whether we are actually going to sign a lease.  I am curious to hear from people who started to go through the process and then at some point decided against it.  I'd like to hear your reasons.  FYI - I'm not posting this so I can attack people's decisions.  I am genuinely interested in hearing from people who decided not to sign a lease.

Gasland has been highly criticized and rebutted.

 

There is no forced pooling in Pa.

 

Most all leases properly negotiated by land groups or a good attorney state that the lease is limited to  "Oil, gas, or related constituents(hydrocarbons)"  and usually state "through the well bore"

 

Anyone that signs a lease from a landman without getting advise from an attorney or an experienced professional is a fool.

 

At least make an attempt to get the facts right.

Katherine, There has been plenty of rebuttals by the industry and others showing the falsehoods and exaggerations that Gasland relies on. If you were truly interested in the truth you would be digging these up on your own. Obviously you are a believer in videos such as Gasland  and won't even consider the possibility of any other scenerio.

 Josh Fox made a movie based on people lighting methane gas coming from there faucets,he didn't know people have been doing that in the country since water wells were first drilled.Methane gas is made from decomposition of organic matter from the surface its very common.Penna. is making methane gas in there land fills and selling it to other states and making a profit on it.Josh Fox didn't do his research before he made that movie,I think it's gonna cost him ?

Yes, it makes for good television just like pictures of smashed Japanese reactors make for good anti-nuke films.

As an engineer, I've been trained to analyze things inside and out and make decisions based upon risk vs. reward.  Like I've stated in other posts, the reward here far outweighs the risk. As energy sources go, natural gas (i.e. fracking) is relatively low risk, low environmental impact, and economical.  We need energy to live our lives with the standard of living to which we've become accustomed.  That's just reality so let's get the energy as cheaply and safely as we can. When something better comes along, let's go with it for sure but with the current state of technology, natural gas isn't a bad option.

i do not want to make fun of this .......if it is for real...but, what about the poor lady in Connoquenessing Township that states her hair fell out and her fingernails are falling off all because of fracking?

I'm sure her ailments are real and were caused by something.  But how do we know it is from gas or fracking?

 

My sister and mother both died from breast cancer, both at the young age of 53, and both on Saint Patrick's day, although many years apart.  Why? Was it something in the shampoo they used? Lots of chemicals in there.  Maybe the Baltimore tap water they drank was poisonous? Maybe because my mother, a German, didn't care much for the Irish? How do we determine what causes these things?  My dad lived in the same house and is still alive at 86.  Again why? 

We simply can't be too simplistic about all this.  Look at the risks and be critical, absolutely.  But be logical too and try to detach from emotion and think logically.

I live in Florida but lived in Ohio til i was 30, my first husband died of germ cell cancer at 33 we lived in Akron Ohio, my sister had 2 Colon cancer at 42, she is a survivor, my other sister died of Melanoma at age 47, and my Dad got Kidney cancer at age 66 and passed away, all in Ohio cant blame it on FRACKING!!

Sorry to hear about all that, Faith. Cancer is a terrible killer.

You're safe from fracking in Florida but watch out for the poisonous snakes and spiders and don't swim with alligators or sharks! :-)

The good news is that on average, we are living much longer than our ancestors so we must be doing something right.

 The gas company's have said all along its a good bridge fuel till we come up with something better.
