Obama puts Wayne National Forest ( Ohio) off limits for fracking

Placing the WNF off limits should make leases with private individuals more desirable.  I saw the article on  the Drudge Report. What do you think?

You bring to light something I have wondered about.....Who owns to the core beneath interstate highways? As you point out , this would sure cut things up if no drilling was allowed beneath them.....? The Feds may really be able to throw a wrench into things in many other ways.

They are masters of subtle manipulation.

Did President Obama halt the drilling in all of Ohio or just Wayne National Forest ?  I was listening to a local talk radio station yesterday and they were talking about it. I was led to believe that it was all of Ohio for 6 months, hopefully not.

My concern is how they follow the law , I am speaking of the ODNR and certain drilling and o-g companies . I know that they follow the guide line pretty well while in populated areas but under the cover of forest and limited population this can be quit a different story .

There are some that have  dispose of fluids under the cover of night rather than hauling to a disposal wells and they are scumbags with no re guards . Then there are the accidents that can't be avoided .

An accident is just what it is but how its handled is the key . Our concerns should be how can this temptation be controlled ? Maybe independent inspectors that are non government that are held responsible to us the true owners of our state forest land .

We must put a handle on this before it starts . If we don't address it now the window of control will close and not open again !

I am 1000%  PRO drilling but like our farms we need to protect our forests for generations to come .

Research it your selves this happens more than you think .

Here's a link to a story on the subject. I understand that the city of Athens Ohio was instrumental in getting the temporary (6 mo) pause in leasing the Wayne National Forest due to concerns about the possible impact on their drinking water. See link....

Scott; the reports have been very confusing.  From what I can tell it would appear that they placed the 6 month moratorium on the Wayne National only, not the entire state.  But it looks like the rabble rousers in the media (not here on GMS) added the 200,000 jobs number as anti-O scare tactics.

I am certainly no fan pf the Big O but I do look for a fair and honest delivery of the news from the MSM.

Thank s Jim, It is good news that its only Wayne National Forest. Hopefully they will leave the rest of us alone.

scott, they will never leave you alone till you vote them out. the wells will be non-union work. the pipelines will be union work because of the size they will have to be. i left the operators union after ten years because of these wack-jobs. no more money from me. and i can guarantee you that the operators(not their leaders)  are watching to see what goes on here. the trade unions produce something. seiu destroys. just my opinion.

Enviromentalist wackos,if everything is done right, there are no dangers,we have been drilling for oil for 100 years plus. There will be the occasional misstep andunscrupulous greedy creeps, but don't allow them to ruin everything.I say we don't sell these wackos any gasoline or electricity because its made with dirty coal.Could it be nat.gas competes with coal? I believe there is a lot of coal mining goes on in wayne co..Just more politics in our lives, that we don't need.He stopped the pipeline now this, when will it end.

John lets get something strait I am not a Waco like you are saying but rather a landowner that is aware of the things stated have happened .

WOW John , looks like I stuck a nerve .

I am not saying that there are a lot of these folks in business but you are fooling your self and others that this dosen't happen .People lie facts don't . I am in no way saying that any of the players in this shale play are that way but don't pretend John that this dosen't happen .

I think it's fair to question what could effect all of us don't you ?

I agree that the utmost standards are taken to prevent any problems and there are a lot of people that would rather us be like the Amish but let me be clear i'm not one of them PERIOD...

Again I am totally pro oil and gas for the reasons you  mention above but the last time  checked  we lived the U.S. and I can comment . . .   PS I am a landowner  that wants to share in this new found wealth like the rest of us .

You said you were pro drilling and I wasn't refering to you, rather obama and his bunch,he says he's for jobs and he pulls this crap!

Totally agree with you .Thanks for the reply .

Also I am a land owner. We finally got something that could really lift this country up and they want to put a lid on it.
