Show me a perfect presidency without mistakes, 100% clean and I'll take you out to dinner Billy.   Read the article, see what it says..It is a delay for reccommended by the State. You titled your post boldy and directly at your President, which in fact catches the eyes of like thinkers. Read the article even the address for the link states "state dept"

The decision does not necessarily kill the project. The State Department said the denial "does not preclude any subsequent permit application" -- and within hours pipeline company TransCanada announced that it would reapply for a permit.

"This announcement is not a judgment on the merits of the pipeline, but the arbitrary nature of a deadline that prevented the State Department from gathering the information necessary to approve the project and protect the American people," Obama said. "I'm disappointed that Republicans in Congress forced this decision, but it does not change my administration's commitment to American-made energy that creates jobs and reduces our dependence on oil."

The State Department made the initial recommendation to Obama on the grounds that there wasn't enough time to review. Obama agreed with that recommendation. According to the White House, Obama called Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper to "personally convey" that decision.

Mark, They have 6 other proposed "safer" routes.  I am in no way suggesting pipe lines are not safe.  One proposed route is shorter and misses the sand hills and aquafer.  The pipeline will be built.  With 4 years of planing and over 1 billion invested so far by Transcanada someone  sure should have been fired for not getting the route right long before now.  Obama was put in this position.  Bringing the problem to light now only will make the delay shorter and allow the pipeline to be built sooner.  The XL pipeline will also service newer US oil fields.  Does anyone know if there is a limit on how much domestic crude can go into the pipeline?  It is still sad our country has fallen so far behind we can't build a pipeline to our own oil wells without involving Canada.   If this project keeps gasoline prices down it will be because of the domestic crude going into it not the Canadian.  Granted any crude from Canada is that much less we need from unfriendly countries.  On a lighter side there are folks out there suggesting we build some food pipe lines.  How about a beer pipeline?

our country hasn't fallen behind. it's been stopped from advancement. in every corner of the country .

Yes Mark.  There were studies performed years ago during the Bush Administration.  They are now discovering their procedures and results were both flawed to facilitate the oil industry.  Did you know Bush the oil companies rights to the oil from our public lands--roylaty free?  Are you going tolease your land royalty free?

Mark,    Are you sure O&G doesn't pay royalties on federal land.  I thought only mining was exempt.  Obama recently stoped new ventures from mining in the Grand Canyon basin, for 20 years, targeting uranium mining.  It sounds like even overseas ventures are allowed on federal land for free.  The current adminastration is trying to do something.  Nuke plants are the un-spoken alternative energy and it is BS that anyone can come extract it for free on public land.

you think the president has the usa oilmens' interest in mind? his very first campaign ad comes out soon, attacking the oil billionaires. thats who is paying for your lease and the pipelines.

I think you have been driniking some great Kool Aide.  He has never had the USA's better interests in mind.

I agree with Ron,  but I also think we should eliminate these political discussions from the blog.

the reason this country is in the shape it is in is because people don't want to 'stoop ' to politics. well everybody better get used to paying attention to it or we will all be picking ---- with the chickens. politics will be as much a part of the production of energy in this country as the recipe for the frack to make the oil flow from shale.

Well said Gary...Big Oil and Gas and little oil and gas are politically controlled and are political in nature. You can't keep them seperate...and as time goes on...it will get more political...our countrie's future is at stake...how can it not get more political?

The Gas Price Spike Act, H.R. 3784, would apply a windfall tax on the sale of oil and gas that ranges from 50 percent to 100 percent on all surplus earnings exceeding “a reasonable profit.” It would set up a Reasonable Profits Board made up of three presidential nominees that will serve three-year terms. Unlike other bills setting up advisory boards, the Reasonable Profits Board would not be made up of any nominees from Congress.

Dems are behnind this....

Thanks Obummer!!

As I'm reading this bill I had to keep reminding myself that it was not satire.

 H.R. 3784 when was this introduced ?
