According to the Morning Journal today, Columbiana Village Council discussed a well that will be drilled on Fairfield School Road.   No permits yet for Fairfield Township.  Anyone have any knowledge?  

Due to some "research" I have done tracking leasing activity - I have noticed an uptick in leases in that general area, especially the small parcels- 1-5 acres.   I wondered if something was happening.

Thanks JA.   Took a look around - appears the "pad" site the surveyors have marked is in the field just southwest ( across Fairfield school Rd from the old school site) of the old school site.  I do believe that land parcel has a 2007 Great Lakes Energy Partners lease ( which means it's now held by Chesapeake).  They are obviously moving on that parcel to hold that land and not have to renegotiate the lease.   Don't know how much they actually have to do to "hold it" without seeing the old lease- should be interesting.

I saw that yesterday.   Seems like there is a bit of a scramble around here to get parcels "held" before the old leases expire.  With the required reporting of what the wells have been producing that occurs in March, has me wondering if the frenzy is to get as many of these properties "going" as possible before the next realization of the production potential hits the landowners.  

I don't think ST stands for storage. I believe it stands for stratigraphic which means that it is an exploration well. If you look at the Sanor well, the vertical part is listed as ST but it is not a storage well. I believe that all these first wells in Coluumbiana County are stratigraphic wells.

The location is exactly where the stakes are.   The parcel is owned by Wards- about a 40 acre parcel.  As mentioned above this is a parcel with an old Great Lakes Energy ( which means CHK controls now) lease which was signed in 2007 so due to be extended if something doesn't happen.   

The Trenton Black River is below the Utica I believe- so it makes sense for it to be a stratigraphic well - straight down to get samples to see what's there. 

This is in our "hood" so I am very interested to see what's going on.   We just signed our lease in mid-November.  The landman who knew almost "nothing"  and could answer very few questions I had did offer this - when I noticed the price for a well pad on the property was better than I had seen in previous leases he said "you won't get a well pad, there are better places right around you for a well pad".   Thought that was interesting remark for someone who seemed so uninformed in all other respects.   Our lease was filed with the recorder FIVE DAYS after we signed it.   In a county with a 5 month back log - thought that was interesting.   Also noticed some of our neighbors with small parcels have been leased recently and also had their leases recorded very quickly.   

I have no idea how/when they build a unit.  Is there a plat map filed on this well yet?

I don't know what happened....The well pad to be in Sections 9 & 4 of Elkrun TWP was all surveyed on Tuesday of this week. There were stakes with several different colored ribbons everywhere (perhaps a hundred or so) in the field than could be seen from Morris Road.  It was apparent all the surveying for the pad was in place.  Today they were ALL GONE!!!!  WEIRD!!

I went by there Thurday about 11 am and the yellow ribboned stakes were piled up near the road, on the south bank.  And the blue ribboned ones were still up---marking the pad it looked like.  There was one truck parked nearby with no one about.  Later that day, I heard from someone who lives in the area that things were on hold due to the fact they need to widen the road to 18 feet.  That end of Morris Road does look too poor to handle the truck traffic so I wouldn't doubt that work needs to be done on it.  But the conversation was just talk amongst folks---nothing proven or solid.  I was told this is on Neville's ground, but haven't verified that and don't know if his land runs down that far.

I heard from a Neville relative the other evening this well is "on hold" at this point.  More work to be done prior was the reason, so it may well be the road.   

Our property did have an issue- rather complicated- which was researched and all parties - attorney, Lessor and Lessee all were very aware of prior to lease signing so all the due diligence was done prior to signing lease.   Probably the reason it was able to be filed so swiftly.   

How did you find the ODNR County Engineer's list?  I did the search but didn't see it on the search results.  I am probably doing something wrong.   Not the most user friendly search I have ever used.
