Rex Energy is drilling horizontal wells in the Upper Devonian which is shallower than the Marcellus.

I had heard prior to this that a couple of test wells in to the UD have been very good producers. One more strata that could be a major producer. Some areas may have five or more strata that will produce gas over the years.

I've been beating the same drum about the multiple strata available in our areas. There is one well, i think it is the Patterson site here in PA, that permitted and drilled to 3 strata, Marcellus, Utica, and one that started with a S. I looked into what the S might stand for but haven't been able to conclusively figure it out.

speechly formation

Here's a guess, Sonyea Formations but it seems thin in Ohio.
Craigslist is well located
Where is the Patterson Located

Wampum-Mt Airy Rd in Southern Lawrence Co.

What three strands did they drill in
I think a lot iin Crawford ,warren, venango, Erie, mercer have five strata

Someday in the off future, it will be possible that E & Ps are drilling and producing five layers or more. They might have 35 to 40 wells on a single pad, drilled over many years. In time they might be drilling laterals that are several miles long.  Drilling units could be 5 sq miles or more, minimizing the environmental impacts.

The US will be energy independent and in fact will be an energy exporter. For the first time in decades we will have a positive balance of trade. This cash inflow will spur investments in many industries in the US like plastics, big pharma, petrochemical industries, heavy manufacturing and more. Cheap energy will spur more industrial activity and save consumers billions. The economy will boom like never before and a huge additional benefit will be cleaner air.

We are at the very early stages of this major event. Will be exciting to see it all play out.

I agree with every word of that, Jim.

Check out these wells at the swankiest shopping mall in Beverly Hills, CA:  http://binged.it/SlHTU0  Most people have no idea they even exist.  All the urban wells in Los Angeles are in groups that go down for miles and then in different directions.  Some of them are even disguised as buildings like this:  http://binged.it/OosHj3  and this:  http://binged.it/OosQTv  There's no reason why pad drilling won't lead to very minimal impact in the future.  While the LA basin wells were there before the population was, one could even drill new wells in population centers with careful planning.

Ron D  I saw a report a couple months back......think it was CNN but not sure....that showed wells being drilled along the California coastline.  Off shore drilling is banned in California so the companies are setting up sites about six blocks from the shore and then drilling out under the sea a couple of miles.

There are huge deposits along that coast and now much of it will be developed from on shore drilling pads. We are just beginning to see what this new technology will do to change the world.

Wonder if the drilling company told them $3000 an acre or we will go around you... and we will only be in ghe area til next week? Kinda blows the whole issue of "pricing your land out of profitable production" argument out of the water wouldnt ya say?
