Did Flint's water become poisoned because of political favors to frackers?

Roughly 10,000 kids have been exposed to elevated levels of lead in the Flint, Michigan drinking water over the past one and a half years. The cost of addressing the problem has been estimated at $100 million to $1.5 billion.

How did this happen? Why was Flint's water supply switched from a good source to an acidic source that corroded the pipes and leached lead into the drinking water?

Steve Neavling in the Motor City Muckraker writes:

“The Flint water crisis that led to thousands of people being poisoned began because state officials maintained it would save the cash-strapped city money by disconnecting from the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department (DWSD) and using a different source. But it turns out, DWSD offered the state-controlled city a deal that would have saved Flint more money by staying with Detroit.

… The offer by DWSD raises serious questions about whether Gov. Rick Snyder was lying when he insisted the water switch was motivated by saving money for Flint, which was under the control of a state emergency manager.

…Now it seems clear why Snyder wouldn’t release the e-mails [from 2013]: They would have revealed that the switch was not about saving money. So what was it about? Some have suggested that Snyder was motivated by a desire to break up DWSD and ultimately privatize it. … Others have suggested that Snyder wanted to start fracking operations along a new pipeline.” http://motorcitymuckraker.com/2016/01/23/gov-snyder-lied-flint-wate...

Regarding fracking in Michigan, Mark Maynard speculates:

Would it surprise you to learn that the children of Flint were ultimately poisoned because Snyder’s donors demanded that a pipeline be built to service their fracking operations?" http://markmaynard.com/2016/01/could-the-flint-water-crisis-have-its-origins-in-a-desire-to-increase-fracking-in-michigan/

Could not said it better! Great Job Dave!

David,

In all fairness to Paul he never said the Martians turned the water into ice cream,,,

He said it was the Venusians.

Paul is the entertainment portion of this site. This site can get a bit serious at times and then comes Paul with his little distractions.

Seriously, the posts that Paul makes provide a learning experience for the readers here. Most of the people who use this site never post, they only read what is posted.

This is not the only place that you will see his type of nonsense posted. But it is a place where we can easily expose it. So for those who only read we have an opportunity to help them see the fallacy of the leftist agenda.

I do understand how his posts may annoy some.

As for me I say let him post away; he makes a fool of himself and the leftist environmental agenda. And we can have fun with him at the same time.

I will admit these last two posts were a serious low even for a leftist whacko..

Absolutely. He has done that many times over now.

Do not feed the Troll.

I am not feeding the troll as much as I am calling out the site administrator for allowing the guy to post this nonsense.

I was not singling you out.  I was just making the observation that the more we reply to the Troll, the more he posts.

Phillip,

I understand.

I enjoy his posts for the reasons I listed.

I do understand that his posts can infuriate, I take them with a grain of salt and consider the source.

Hi guys,

I blog most of the time o n Cleveland.com, there are more trolls there by far than here and most of the time I am perfectly content to let them bang away with their idiocy.

But sometimes enough is enough.

The site administrators will allow Heckbert for the same reasons Cleveland.com allows me, click bait, keeping the debates going and reader interest high.

Difference is with me I bring it hard but my shtick is dead on. Heckbert not at all.

I am a pretty good old boy most of the time. But this is a serious issue and the health risks to the kids and elderly in Flint is not being over stated by much.

To go on a site and troll some moronic opinion is one thing, but to try to make political hay when little kids are at risk really gets me fired up.

Thanks for understanding, hoping you do.

David,

Understand perfectly.

But this is not the first time Paul has used children to as props for his leftist agenda. It's a standard leftist tactic right out of the Alinsky playbook; and Paul is a good little leftist following the playbook to a "T"'

As I said, he needs to be exposed for who he is and what he represents for all those who only read on this site.

I don't understand how liberals such as Paul are pro choice and than they worry about children?

paleface,

They are hypocrites.

They also believe the end justifies the means.

If they have to use the suffering of children to win , they will. Or the suffering of anyone, they will.

Paul has demonstrated that with his two posts on Flint.

Governor Snyder of Michigan is being subpoenaed for earlier emails, which should help reveal why the Flint water supplier was switched.
