On December 10 in the Library of Village of Sidney, NY at 6:30 PM the landwoners group held it's first meeting. Some of the notes below:
On Dec. 10, 2009, the Town of Sidney Landowners Association held its first informational meeting at the Sidney Memorial Library. The speaker was the atorney for our local Coalition who covered the current gas-drilling situation in the Southern Tier at great length and detail. Scott R. Kurkoski, Esq., associated with the Oil and Gas Law Practice Group of Levene Gouldin & Thompson, LLP, spoke to a sizable group of local landowners. Kurkoski has had considerable experience handling Oil and Gas transactions. He has also partnered with a consulting attorney, Peter E. Hosey of San Antonio, Texas who is considered an expert in the energy field throughout the southwest United States.

Mr. Kurkoski mentioned that there are several Gas Drilling Coalitions in Broome County. An economic impact study for Broome has shown that gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale Formation would bring 15 billion dollars to the area during its first 10-year period. While the Town of Sidney is smaller than Broome County, there would be a significant positive financial impact for our area.

I don't know yet, but we have about 9,000 acres so far... trying to get to about 20,000. It appears we will be having a second meeting around mid January..
In keeping with our commitment to keep local landowners up to date with the latest Gas Drilling information, the Sidney Area Landowners Association has scheduled a technical shale rock gas-harvesting meeting on Thursday, January 28, 2010 The meeting will be held at the Sidney Public Library in their Smart Room. The meeting will start at 6:00 PM. Seating is limited to 100 people.
We feel very fortunate to have Mr. Don Zaengle, a consulting geologist, as speaker for the evening. Don has had more than 20 years experience in gas and oil drilling with Shell Oil Corp. He is working with several companies and groups in our larger area with respect to the Marcellus Shale. His excellent presentations, tailored to our local area, includes captivating visual detail and covers local shale layer formation history that resulted in the creation of hydrocarbon deposits. All are aware of the current media coverage concerning gas drilling that only recently became economically feasible as a result of technological and drilling advancements developed in Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Zaengle has been a frequent lecturer on the geology of unconventional gas plays. He had his undergraduate training at SUNY-Oneonta with an advanced degree, with honors, from the University of Illinos. Zaengle Geoscience LLC specializes in geologic support for Coalitions, law firms, municipalities, gas firms and individuals.
This meeting is a MUST for coalition members interested in learning about the treasures beneath our feet. Our intent is to develop a compatible and equitable relationship with the Gas Drilling Industry. Cooperation is vital to the nations energy and environmental protection needs.
