I have heard of NARO and visited their website before but don't know a lot about them.  I am considering joining them as they may be an effective way of promoting the industry and protecting landowner/mineral owner rights.  Is anybody a member? Have you attended any of their meetings? Do they have an effective lobbying arm?

Currently on the Pa chapter page they have a story about Corbett signing the bad bill allowing pooling of leased HBP parcels if there is no restrictions of such in the leases. At least they are working on this issue.

I see they have a Pa chapter but not an Ohio one.  Would people here be interested in starting one? Strangely, their national convention is to be held in Columbus Oh on Oct 31.....maybe they are starting an Ohio chapter and will announce it then.

As they are a national organization with an established history, I am hoping they are a good and solid organization. I would appreciate any input from GMS members.

if Corbett goes we..the people on this site promoting this industry are cutting off our nose to spite our face.  if anybody thinks there is someone else lined up on our side that will be elected...they are mistaken. be careful what you wish for!  there are a lot of people that want us shut down and they are just waiting for the chance.  whenever you look at politics you have to go with the best of 2 evils.. that is just the way it  works!

Mark;  didn't mean they are trying to get rid of Corbett  but that they are fighting against the bill he just signed into law that hurts landowners. He has done a lot of good but this law needs to be amended.

I am a NARO member, long distance. I think Ohio is currently in the Appalachia group with West Virginia and maybe Kentucky. It is fairly recently that Pennsylvania got its own chapter. I think it depends on if enough people want to separate out and run a group.

They have a national lobbyist. Their main and only goal is to help mineral/royalty owners.

Monthly newsletter, and some chapters have their own newsletters.

Expensive but I think worth it.

I think naro is a great organization. I am not a member, but have spoken with some great folks at the national level. some of the national board are here on this forum.

it is not necessary to join a local chapter, you can join any state or the national chapter.

one thing to consider is that folks in other areas have far more experience with issues, about which we are only beginning to learn.

the greatest value that I have found in naro is networking and communication. sometimes there is no substitute for talking about a problem with someone who has experienced it and gotten it successfully resolved.

I do not think that naro lobbies.

NARO seems like it could be a good organization.  They are national though.  I would like to know their official position on a severance tax in Ohio.  Sometimes National organizations let issues like this slide f there are similar laws already in other states.   National organizations can kinda accept common bad laws already in other states as the norm.  For example, a NARO member explained to me NARO supports a severance tax in Ohio because there are similar laws in other states and the tax is important because it will help pay ensure payment for infrastructure (ie roads  and environmental protections).  I don't know if he mis-spoke or not but it really alarmed me.  That's why I'd like to know their official position and if they will stick to it.  Any NARO officials out there wanna clarify this for all the Ohio shale owners out there????????
