Obama puts Wayne National Forest ( Ohio) off limits for fracking

Placing the WNF off limits should make leases with private individuals more desirable.  I saw the article on  the Drudge Report. What do you think?

My opinion is: Keep the govt. land off the market untill all (majority) of private land is leased. We don't need competition from National Forests, State Parks, etc while the private landowners are trying to negotiate a decent lease. Someone posted on the Main board that the Muskingum Watershed leased with Gulfport for $16 per acre. If that is trrue, someone should be investigated for incompetence or worse.

I see that the report of $16 per acre has been changed to $1600 per acre and that the figure was attributed to an error. I also see in the post below that Shocked by the ignorance reports that the correct nomber was $2250 per acre. Whatever...... Read the Muskingum thread and you will get a feel for what was said. I guess the press release giving the true terms of the lease and amounts involved will clarify the issue. Since they are a public entity, shouldn't they disclose?

Just FYI the watershed signed for $2250 when the offers were $2000 with a lease that they wrote. I give them a thumbs up!!! But its nice to see people that know nothing expressing there opinion and spreading false rumors. Way to go people.

Shocked...  I can not dispute either of the prices listed here, as I do not know anything of what the MWCD or WNF have going on... But, with what you posted, it sounds like you are calling the people out on what they have posted.  If you are going to call someone out for posting a non-truth, could you back up the information that you are posting?  Without the facts behind it, your numbers look the same as everybody else's... Something you may be posting that somebody else told you.  Do we know if that someone is a reliable source?  Not without some background to support it...

The question we should all ask ourselves is how is it that the feds can tell a state what to do with the state's land?

The states created the federal government, the states should destroy it.  Nullify Now!

Same issue came about in Pa.  Sometimes, the states used federal funds to purchase lands for state forests. The feds say that gives them the right to intervene. Motto; don't accept federal dollars if you don't want federal interference.

I agree, but it is a National Forest.  If the Feds foot the bill they probably get the last word.  I'm more worried if they were to put a ban under the Interstate highways.  That would cut the land up and pose potential future pipe line problems.  The State of Ohio is leasing State lands and promoting drilling. 

 

There has been drilling in National forests for a long time.  Maybe it's just a fracking not drilling ban?  And maybe there is a hold so they don't lease the land for nothing because a congressman got lifetime green fees paid and a cottage in Martinique. 

 

It seems its time for all to start contacting their State and Federal representatives and let them know something.  Lets make them work a bit for those lifetime pensions and health care, and tell Obama to get enough royalty % to get some more money going toward the budget.  Folks in Alaska used to get a check from the State instead of paying State income tax................?

To quote Rick Perry...oops!  You are right that is a National Forest.

The Allegheny National Forest is being developed because something like 85% of the oil and gas rights are in private ownership. Oil was big in Pa back when this National Forest was created and the rights were reserved. Don't know about the Wayne.

Who pays the feds ? I am not endorsing Obama .
