There were probably 250 to 300 people there. I spoke to a husband and wife that drove down from Cleveland to hear what was to be said. They still own some land in Jefferson County. The Ohio Farm Bureau is willing to assist in helping set up leasing blocks. The suggestion was for neighbors to talk, discuss forming a block with a local attorney and then get in touch with the Farm Bureau for a list of 5 - 6 law firms that specialize in lease law. The state geologist did not show up so it was painfully evident that something was missing from the meeting. I would hope that Terry Engelder could be brought in for a future meeting. It was interesting that there were no representatives from Marietta College, Ohio University or Ohio State present. The Farm Bureau is open to the idea of having additional meetings. I asked if they would be interested in having meeting to assist local businesses in learning how to benefit from the boom, and he responded that they would. The Farm Bureau has been having meetings from South Point to Jackson and NE to Steubenville. The company that Tom refers to below as offering $100 is now up to a $250 paid up lease offer.

There were some contracts signed last year and then it died off until about two weeks ago and now the phone is ringing again. Chesapeake is looking for leases in Jefferson County.

I am not aware of any recent activity. All of the leases that i am aware of were signed several years ago. There has been some recent activity in Carroll County not far from the Jefferson and Columbiana County common corner boundary. They have been leases for the Rose Run formation. I am wondering if the recent interest in liquids will boost activity in Jefferson County. in the past I have been told that was a reason to stay away from our area, but now it may prove to be a benefit.
