Thanx for the follow-up on what I had to miss attending.  I had hoped they'd put out more info on what they perceived about the geology in Mercer and Crawford, and what they hoped to achieve there.  Sounds like a mini dog-n-pony show, instead of informing us about how agressive they would be or what has their interest in our neck of the woods.

I went to the meeting and honestly I liked the setup. Instead of having one or two people talking to everyone they had different people to answer questions regarding different aspects of there business.

Maybe I am reading to much into it but for as small of a foot print as shell has in the area I was a bit surprised by the size of the production they put on. There are several companies holding a lot more land than shell around here who make no effort. So any ways it has me thinking is she'll looking at trading for some land? Buying out an other oil companies land holdings in the area? Or flat out buying an oil company that has a strong foot print in the area.

Halcon has been operated with the sole porpose of being sold in the future. Maybe the future is near and shell is doing a little PR before the deal goes through.

Sounds like Shell isnt going to be very aggressive any time soon, wish Chevron, or another company would step in and start doing something, 6-8 months ago everything was being leased up, now nobody is doing anything???

I was also at the Hempfield meeting. I think one of the reasons the attendence was so low is Shell didn,t advertise in the local paper, The greenville record argus.  I pointed it out to them and the person responible didn, t even know Greenville had a newspaper. I think there were more Shell employees there than local people. What I got out of the meeting is they have 3 more wells on the 2014  schedule . They won,t tell you much as they are just doing explore wells so far.

I was at the meeting also.  They had a map showing the three wells permitted, including the one just on the north side of the Crawford Co line.  She stated that they were the only three they would drill this year and then said they will probably drill three or four next year, depending on siesmic and results of the first three.

I talked to the guys at the land desk for some time.  They said they are not leasing at his time which I found disappointing as I thought they would have had a new budget for land acquisition for the year.

Never expect these companies to give any results of wells, siesmic, or other research. They pay tens of millions to develop the results and they certainly don't want the competition to know. And they probably don't want landowners to know either.

So it was just a BS type of meeting? No info on how many wells they might intend to drill in Mercer or Crawford Counties in 2013 or even 2014? No info or insight into whether they are going to aggressively seek to lease additional acreage in Mercer and/or Crawford Counties? No discussion of the results of exploratory wells that they have drilled in Mercer and/ or Crawford County and how such results have influenced their plans for the future? I guess I was foolish to think that they might actually present something of substance whether positive or negative. At least we should know by July 1 whether they are going to build the cracking plant in Monaca!

For those who missed the Shell informational meeting in Greenville, well, be thankful..

The very basics on drilling and geography were given. Now, if you just fell off the turnip truck it may have been "educational"..

The presentation lasted 10 minutes starting with in the case of an emergency we were all(about 30 attended) to vacate thru that door  over there???maybe he was joking?

The second "speaker" was impressive that she gave the first names of about a 15 or so Shell employees that were present to answer individual questions at the different booths spread across the room.

At the booths any of the few questions I asked such as how far north in crawford co. are you interested', Any info on the drilled wells, have you done any seismic in crawford. what can we expect?

Well, I should have concentrated on the buffet, which by the way was very nice.

Leases offered by O&G companies are not about being fair. The documents used by each company has been designed to gain the most advantage possible for the company and is the result of years of sophisticated effort by highly qualified business people and their attorneys, some of the best in the business. Each sentence is there for a reason - to gain an advantage for and protect the producer. The form is without input from any landowner and one has to negotiate, usually unsuccessfully to get each concession for the landowner. And no one can argue that the producer makes its best offer to the landowner the first time they meet. Just trying to figure out how the royalty will be calculated is a monster. In wet gas areas like Crawford County, will the royalty be measured against each of the several gas prices that are paid for the ethane, butane, propane etc. - or will someone just come up with a price for gas without giving the lessor the benefit of the several valuable parts.
Lessee is required to furnish an address to get paid, but Lessee is not required to provide the same to Lessor so Lessor can get notice to Lessor. In most cases the Lessee is not required to even advise of an assignment, let alone who to and how much etc. etc. Where is fair? Do not expect fair.
