Someone indicated it would be helpful to have info on sources of the Airport deal. The deal at Pittsburgh International Airport is not hard to find on the Internet. Some sources listed below. I would love to see the documents at some point to see the unpublished details. There is a lot of detail missing.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/national/authority-board-approves-500...
In 2006 the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport received a $181 million bonus for rights on about 18,000 acres of land, plus a royalty of 25 percent on all future production.
Jerry Simmons, the executive director of the National Association of Royalty Owners in Tulsa, Okla., said he found it “a little surprising” that Pittsburgh officials couldn’t negotiate a higher royalty rate. He noted that since the Pittsburgh airport controls 9,000 acres they’re in a stronger position to negotiate, compared to small landowners.
But Simmons said he also tells people that “when you get to the point when you think you got a good deal, take it,” since royalty rates vary from about 12.5 percent up to 25 percent. Davin, the authority treasurer, said officials believed the 18 percent rate to be “very good.”
LOOKS LIKE DALLAS FT WORTH GOT A BONUS OF ABOUT TWICE AS MUCH PER ACRE - with a royalty of 25% for stuff that is \not as good as most of Appalachia which is closer to eastern markets and offers several layers of shale etc. for drilling – not just one.
TEXANS JUST LIKE TEXANS BETTER THAN THE FOLKS AROUND HERE.

Bob,

Strongly agree with you. Even though a majority of people hate the fact of political involvement with theses forums. Its inevitable, the involvement with natural gas exploration companies, producers and drilling companies have to deal directly with these politics, local, state and national just as we do. As for a rare species of bird hindering the development of a gaswell in Northwest, Pa.? Didn't we see the same scenario play out in the Midwest for the major pipeline (Keystone) from Canada to Mexico? All because of a rare type of beetle? There are ways around it and the drilling companies along with the providers can and have made provisions necessary to explore those areas without doing harm towards the species that inhabit the area. Its working together. Regardless of the party you belong to there are a few things we can all agree on, and hopefully the business providing the various types of natural gas extraction can follow and play by the rules as well.

The state of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and West Virginia have vast resources of natural gas and oils in different faults of the shales, within different depths and lengths running throughout the Northwest United States. We are all truly blessed to have it. That in turn can and will make us energy independent. As long as it is done correctly and nothing is abused like the land. I really don't see why it will not be shut down all together. Together that is landowners, politicians, natural gas business and ordinary people working together to ensure that the jobs and lifespan of this industry will last for many years to come. It is very possible to do so. Without it in the future it is very hard to fathom what we would do to keep this area and the region alive with employed people and overall security in living good lives. Like it or not. That is one of these facts that we have to take very seriously and ensure that the steps from start to finish on every well site.

There is only one thing you have to remember, it's all about the money and jealousy and jealousy is the root of all evil !!!!

Go see the heading about Pa Senate Bill 356. Yes its politics, very important politics for landowners as it would prospectively legislate Pugh clauses for O&G leases. I'm sure j.rick as some objection to the entire thread because yes, it involves politics.

Comment by Bob Jenness on February 9, 2013 at 3:56pm

Perhaps we should switch from what's wrong with Dems and Reps to what's wrong with all those obviously good citizen energy E&D companies:-).  That would be more pertinent to the forum.

I would observe that finding the proper balance between harvesting a crop (even if it's O&G) and preserving the land for future harvests should be every landowner's first mission.  That may mean working very hard to subvert the evil agendas of a few bad apples of both pols and drillers, assuming we're granted the wisdom to tell the difference.

j. rick: Who appointed you to speak for anyone but yourself? You are apparently also a mindreader, since you presume to be speaking for others from your last comment. If others have something they want to say, they can say it! And Gary, thanks for your comment which shows that not everyone agrees with j.rick.

well, things just went south.  anyway, keep it up sam/ the reason we're in the shape we're in is because nobody wanted to talk about politics.

Comment by j. rick on February 9, 2013 at 11:45am

AWW why dont you take heed an shut the eff up about politics im sayin what others would like to tell you. take it to another forum.

Comment by Samuel J. Orr on February 9, 2013 at 11:21am

I have had my say! Think we agree more than you might think. We all need to be vigilant because politicians of either party are capable of screwing us!

Comment by rex roae on February 9, 2013 at 10:47am

Samuel, I understand what your saying.  I just happen to have equal contempt for both sides and could post just as much dirt on the GOP as the libs.

It just seems that would be a discussion better suited to another place as we're concentrating on the here and now with our perspective leases.
