I only mention political things that relate to O&G. I think you would at least agree that as citizens we need to elect people who believe in the second amendment, believe in landowners' rights, and are favorable to development of O&G. If they have these positions, then I do not care if they are Republicans, Democrats, or Independents. I know who sympathize with NY farmers who are deprived O&G revenue because of state policy that prohibits fracking. I also note that because of Obama's election, our O&G revenue will be taxed at much higher rates. If you are OK with that, I respect your position, but respectfully disagree with it.
thankyou very much rex. well said
Samuel, the same could be said about Bush and Republicans when thinking back to the Patriot Act, DHS and the TSA. To me, both sides are equally intent on marginalizing our rights.
But,....I would rather we stick to oil and gas discussions here.
I must come here twice a day to see if there's any new info on the Lippert well.
When we elect Obama and liberal democrats to office, we progressively lose our freedoms. Maybe we deserve what we get.
back in the 1990's the pennsylvania land owners association entered into a fight with the government because the government banned logging in the allegheny forest in warren and other counties. someone had found ONE 'indiana' bat. all the school districts there suffered because they gained tax money from those timber sales. while listening to the radio one night coming from work up there, a landowner association member quoted a D.C.N.R. official, talking about the state game lands. the person remarked that 'we can't have a bunch of rednecks in charge of six billion dollars of oil and gas and timber rights...'' refering to the game commission and the hunters who fund them thru license fees. the d.c.n.r. and the d.e.p. would like nothing better than to change the ownership and administration into 'them'. because now its a hundred billion. we need to pay attention and never let them gain control of our gamelands.at least no more than they already have.
Berk, regarding "complete information"...
Just as we'll never have all the information necessary to make a go/no-go decision on any particular lease, we'll never have all the information to guide the complex environmental/business tradeoffs that go with natural gas development in an area with both buried and surface treasures. Does anybody here disagree that this question makes the $ and years aspects of a lease look downright trivial by comparison? On the $ and years aspects, at least we can talk to reliable experts on this forum, but on the environmental side, experts are harder to find, and their reliability seems to be impugned by their belief systems in many cases. Pennsylvania does seem to be doing a better job than OH, ND, TX, LA, but the PA environment may be richer and need even more protection than those relative wastelands (no offense to those other places, of course:-). We could also make the case that some places in the mideast are doing better than PA (one has zero flaring and is still making good bucks from oil and gas).
Gary,
Thanks for giving me the complete information on this. I had a feeling someone on here would know what was really going on.
although there are for certain, groups of nuts who will put forth the probable existence of endangered species in an area,to stop production,i don't attribute those attitudes to the pa. game commission. they are leasing property all over pa. for drilling purposes. they don't want to disarm pennsylvanians and don't want to eminent domain your property, as failed dem run cities like to do. mostly to raise tax base. (scotus has ruled that raising tax base is the same as taking land for a school or road.)

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
