Well, I can provide a pic or two.  It was difficult to get a real good one and I had to do some cropping, but maybe this is better than nothing.  BTW - Dave sent me the plat documents and our property is included in the horizontal, though I am not clear if all of it is since the "bottom hole" is in the middle of the property and the 330' circle around it at the end excludes a small part of the property.  At any rate, here are some pics.  You may have to look closely to find things.

For RJS,

From your most recent post, and my admittedly incomplete understanding, here's the math I think you need to do (subject to suggested corrections from this forum, of course):

1. Get us a picture of the flare with some object of known size at about the same distance from the camera - i.e. if there's a pickup truck or semi trailer visible, try to get a picture from a point on a line perpendicular to the line between the flare and the object.  Take the picture at a twilight time when both the flare and the object (and maybe the flare pipe) are bright enough to show up in the picture.

2. get the newbies and experts in this forum to make a judgement on the size of the flare and the pipe (diameter) it's coming out of.

3. get the newbies, and (especially) the experts in this forum to make an estimate of the flow rate in mcfd (call it FR, for now)

4. Multiply FR by the current price of natural gas at the Henry Hub.

5. Divide that number by the total leased acreage in the plat.

6. Multiply that number by the acreage in your lease.

7. Check the math, and factor for the uncertainty in the above estimates.

8. Use the resulting range of numbers for your income budget from the new well.

9. Check your account with RRC, and their future published numbers for the well and let us know how it compares over time.

Accept our congratulations and shared joy in advance, cause no matter how big, you've been part of binging in a Crawford County Gusher!:-)

Thanks, David.  I did ask for it at the link given below.  BTW - I was wrong, just drove by the well and it still is flaring.  The flame doesn't seem as high as it was as the first night the sky was orange in the direction of the well when viewed from my house.  Now the white stadium type lights seem like the brightest thing.  It could just be perception.

j. rick - When we bought the house and acreage (we have just over 11 acres), the lease had been signed by the previous owner.  the mineral rights were transferred to us, but still under the same lease.  It is the old 1/8 royalties.  So, we didn't have much say in the matter.  We have been getting shallow well royalties on it since the purchase.  The lease terms permit Range to keep developing the property as was the case for most of the landowners in the vicinity.

RJS I have the Plat from the DEP. If you email me at dhunt@mdvl.net I will send it to you

RJS, is it possible for them to go thru your property if you dont have a lease with them? and are you entitled to royalties if it is goin thru your property?

I was away for the day and it looks like the flaring may be done and I may be too late for a good pic.  The flame did not look as high last night as the night before.  I don't know much about the process or if that is normal.  I will check into the link for the map of the horizontal, though a neighbor saw the map and told us it went through our property.

Berk,

No inside information, just speculation after reading the article.  I speculate that the alleged vandal may feel he's been treated unfairly by the current owner of the property.  I notice that the Meadville Tribune is trying to help him out by publishing all the (previously unknown to us) details of his public record since 2004.  I also notice that they chose not to publish any public record details for the current owner.  I wonder how many judgements have been entered against them in the same time frame in, let's say, Crawford and eastern PA Marcellus counties?  I also notice that the purchase price looked to be a bit higher than typical in the area, but no mention of what part of that may have been compensation for O&G value.  That further protects the current owner's privacy.

I do have personal knowledge that at least one of the authors is a reputable and conscientious journalist, so perhaps a follow-up article will balance this out.

Only in the interest of fairness, or course, and certainly not meant to in any way condone the alleged vandalism.

RJS,

If you want to know the exact location of the horizontal bore, you can request the well plat information from the DCNR. They will email it in pdf the same day you request it, and the best part is its free. Email Ms. Schmid, here is the link.

This is kind of interesting. Anyone have any inside information as to why?

RJS maybe you can take a photo and post it for Bob Jenness. My buddy said he don't think the flame is as big as the one was at Dempsy town but that was over a year ago so who knows. And the one at Dempsy town was dry gas I believe, does that make a difference Bob?
