The Management at Residence Inn by Marriott - Pittsburg Airport
A few years ago, I had a job where I traveled overnight 4 days a week. During that time, I came to appreciate the hotels that did the little things to make life easy. Many of you know what I am talking about. The hot breakfast that went beyond gravy from a can, the free newspaper, friendly staff to bring you more towels and the list goes on. Well, I think I have found… Continue

I’m getting ready to load up the van for our Christmas drive. Loading up the vehicle became more complicated after marriage, and then even more complicated after the birth of two little ones – girls at that! Of course, my philosophy on packing differs from my wife’s. She’s more into trails. Trails of items ranging from shoe boxes to grocery bags filled with odds and ends, and of course regular luggage. I’m learning to chuckle at it, but I do find myself asking why? Why all this hassle? After…

Thanksgiving Day Proclamation
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor-- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with…

Shaler,
Are you on Facebook? GMS is. Add me as a Facebook friend.
Find me here.
I had a site member ask me about about discussions regarding drilling activity in other shale plays. He was specifically referring to the Utica and Herkimer shale plays. GMS definitely should be a place to discuss these other shale plays with the Marcellus shale serving as the Umbrella under which ALL other exploration &…

Don't know about you, but I've anticipated the day that Obama would speak to the issue of shale gas and
now he has.
"The two Presidents announced the launch of a new U.S.-China Shale Gas Resource Initiative. Under the Initiative, the U.S. and China will use experience gained in the United States to assess China’s shale gas potential, promote environmentally-sustainable… Continue

Shaler,
I want to welcome the influx of new members that have joined over the last couple of weeks. This site is well on its way to becoming a valuable tool for organizing and sharing information on the Marcellus.
There are a few things that will make this site extremely useful; let me share.
1.
Inviting your friends and neighbors. - Like any movement, word of mouth is huge in…

It's nice to be getting hyperbolic lectures from the biggest contributor of trash... a city that itself has littered the eastern shores of this nation with medical waste and used tires...fortunately, for them, the city has the $$$ to somehow always pay off an outside state to accept their litter.
Maybe the east coast should launch their own campaign against the
largest purveyor of filth…

Bill Powers has an
article
Highlights.
"The two most important factors in the production profile of a play are its decline curve and its reserve life."
"I believe we are about to experience a big mismatch between US reserves and gas deliverability due in large part to long-lived shale gas reserves."
"Given that an increasing percentage of US reserves…

Gov. Ed Rendell said more time is needed to see how the industry develops in Pennsylvania.
[In other words, lets wait until we lure them here and then we'll really fleece them]
An economic impact study by Penn State researchers said curtailment of drilling activity that would result from the imposition of a proposed severance tax would generate $1.4 billion less state and local total tax revenue between now and 2020 than if the industry is allowed to grow without the…

Drilling and Fracturing
Both vertical and horizontal wells are used in shale gas drilling and completion; however, horizontal wells are the increasing trend due to both environmental concerns and economic efficiency (DOE, 2009). Horizontal drilling allows more exposure within the formation to optimize capture of natural gas as well as reducing the environmental footprint of drilling activity (DOE, 2009). The United States Department of Energy’s recently released document on shale gas…

We are getting "local" as we continue to organize and grow this website. We have begun the process of narrowing our discussions down to the county level with the creation of
county groups within GoMarcellusShale.com.
The county groups will allow us to share relevant information to our locales; such as leasing activity. These groups need you. The value of each group really depends on our willingness to share what we…
