A Chat with Rick Smead about Natural Gas and World Shale

Rick Smead is a veteran in the natural gas industry. If you have read anything on shale gas reserves, you have have probably read something that he had a hand in creating. This come-lately niche has led to 100 speeches on the topic over the last 3 years. Rick was holed up in a Washington D.C. law firm for a few days serving as an expert witness. I went in and met with him to discuss his…

Lincoln's Thanksgiving Day Proclamation

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary…

THE 60 MINUTES SHALE GAS MISINFORMATION - WHY IT MATTERS...

Minute 6:06 is where it all went south. Minute 10:45 is where I laughed out loud. Like an aged rollercoaster that you were foolish enough to hop on. I, however, continued to watch, hoping that it would right itself. But it wasn’t to be. Ms. Stahl, what did we do to you to deserve such “royal treatment?”

You can watch the segment here.

What I won’t do is be overly critical of the landowners who…

5% Becoming the Norm??

I am seeing a disturbing trend of 5% becoming the norm for negotiation fees. Beyond lost income, I do see disadvantages with paying someone a % of your bonus and/or royalties to negotiate your lease for you. One, they aren't doing anything that you can't do with a good attorney reviewing lease language. Two, if the gas companies want your land, they’re going to find you. Three, there is an inherent conflict of interest virtually on the same level as the landowner and the drilling company.… Continue

I have seen this documentary, and I was impressed. Mr. Kallenberg did a tremendous job capturing the dynamics involved with a shale play. I truly believe that this movie can change the way this nation looks at energy. This movie is not only for those involved in… Continue

What are people saying about the "American Power Act" whose sponsors include Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Joseph Lieberman (I-CT)

T. Boone Pickens

“Senators Kerry and Lieberman are to be commended for a plan that recognizes the economic and national security threat of our ever-increasing dependence on foreign oil, particularly OPEC oil. Achieving energy security is not easy and I applaud their focus on a broad energy package that includes replacing foreign oil/diesel/gasoline with cleaner, abundant domestic natural gas in America’s heavy duty vehicle fleets. I look forward to working with them in the coming weeks to… Continue

Pending Divorce: Can Natural Gas and Renewables Survive as a Couple?

Divorce Pending: Can Natural Gas and Renewables Survive as a Couple?

by Keith Mauck

The natural gas lobby has pinned much of its future hopes on the ability to serve as the "faithful partner" to renewable energy, primarily wind and solar. T. Boone combined natural gas with wind - before dropping the wind. A visit to the Natural Gas Aliance's website, and you find that they have staked their postions on the ability to wed natural gas… Continue

T. Boone Pickens Touts Natural Gas Act on Capitol Hill

T. Boone appeared before the Ways and Means Committee to tout the benefits of the Natural Gas Act (NAT GAS Act). Legislation that would provide incentives to get CNG & LNG big rigs and utility trucks on our roads.

The legislation would pursue a 5-year goal of 236,000 natural gas trucks (heavy, medium, and light duty) in operation which would displace an estimated 2 billion gallons of…
