The symptoms the children at LeRoy High School in LeRoy New York are suffering from are very similar to the neurological symptoms shown in the movie "Split Estate". The movie documents what citizens in Rocky Mountain States have been living with for years, primarily in the towns of Dish Texas and Denton Texas.

wow!! I thought we were talking about water contamination of private water wells, if your well water supply is contaminated with diesel fuel, Kerosene and solvents ... you're surely not treating it to drinking water standards without a LOT of money, a series of treatments and it wont be hard to prove that "someone" contaminated it for you.... none of that is naturally occurring in ground water... nor in my 30 years of working with public and private water supplies have I ever seen a ground water source with all of that in it at once.... If you're treating straight frac waste water we're in another league of problems... which I didn't see as how this blog started... most alledged private water well contamination complaints from fracing are a lot harder to prove than if all the frac chemicals and componenets ended up in the well.... usually just parts per million levels show up, if anything... and pretty much all ground water sources have some natural gas components in it already, so just finding some of those isn't much proof of fracing contamination either... the first part of any treatment scenario is to determine what is in it, and what is needed to be removed from it in order to use it for the intended purpose: laundry, flushing toilets, washing dishes or consumption ..... RO and membrane filtration is top of the line for removing inorganics, if softeners or green sand filters wont do the job; aeration and activated carbon filtration work best for organics and removal of gases..... a series of these would be needed if ALL of that is in there, and you would be better off collecting and treating surface or rain water for drinking purposes if your well was that bad...
Howard, You are way to trusting of the govt. Cost is the only factor that limits how pure you can make your home water. There is a massive industry out there ready to sell you distillers, carbon filters and mechical filters.
Now, this is the interesting thing Ken (thanks for the link), people who oppose fracking don't care - they just want to be right and cause disruption, what the anti-fracking movement is all about anyhow.
My question is this, are the oil/gas workers unionized?
Linda,
no, us O&G workers (as far as drilling and completions) are not unionized. As most, if not all, the oil and gas producing states are right to work states there hasn't ever really been a serious attempt to unionize the industry on the upstream end.
I do believe that there are pipeline workers as well as refinery workers that are union, but as far as those of us that get the resources out of the ground, there aren't any unions in our line of work.
well, in (NC -PA) Tioga County PA, they are fracking the crap out of everything, not hundreds, but thousands of wells around here and the media hype of all of this in Leroy is pretty typical of "The shy is falling"..... I've met many fellows that are here from Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas,... and been fracking on a daily basis for years, and NONE of them have tremors or seem to have nervous disorders of any kind ....Some of them live right on the site during the process and then move to the next site, so if you want check "exposure limits" that is the group of people that would have it .... many counties in PA have had similar Brine water removed from gas wells and just spread on township dirt roads for dust suppression for many YEARS !!!! as long as there have been gas wells ...I worked for PA DEP for 32 years including waste management, hazardous waste super-fund sites, public water supply development and haz mat responses so I do have a bit of experience in the area. This is about as scientifically proven as the earth quakes coming from fracking.... and why is it just girls...??? That one is a real biological oddity, I would suspect some form of female hormone in the drinking water if I had to hop into this investigation, unfortunately our regulated water filter plants do NOT remove dissolved hormones from water and these are getting concentrated over the years. It seems any time there is a media blitz about anything "environmental" symptomatic people come out of the wood work to match "the disease" .... and as the US continues to wonder off into a Nanny State .... everything is somebody else's fault and "I" deserve compensation .... too many Lawyers ....
Great [pints James - thank you. Don't forget the fluoride in drinking water along with other dissolved hormones. We are fortunate enough to have our own spring water on the farm and have it tested every so often - sweet!
Thanks James,
It was only a few years ago it was normal practice in health care to flush all expired pharmicuticals down the tiolets.
Affordable energy for the general public is not a priority of this administration. Electric power, fuel oil, and gasoline (all the things that are necessary to American Life as we know it) are now so expensive that just getting to work and staying warm is eating up our incomes. Obama promised this would happen so we would go "green".
Fracking is not without its drawbacks. Yet if done properly with good over-site and well trained workers we can live with it. I really wish that the trucks using my road would be CNG. America needs the fuel to grow and at this moment it seems that is not a priority for the administration.
nor any other moment, past or future.
Have you noticed how much cheaper it is to operate your furnace?
And see"

On US Energy Information Administration tracking of residential gas prices through 2010
My guess is that 2011will be better
Over time one would expect price of energy to rise. Shale gases have reversed that trend - probably for some time. Current prices are the lowest they have been for some time. Not good for the royalty owner.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
