We received a lease check from Hess Oil last year as a payment for a five-year lease. Now they are drilling, but we are not receiving a royalty check. We have been told the oil companies in Ohio are holding royalty checks for those who own mineral rights but do not own the surface land. We are told they are waiting to see who gets the money until the State of Ohio Supreme Court makes a decision on if the recipient will be the mineral rights owners or the land owners. Does anyone have further information on this? Here we are paying mineral rights taxes to Harrison County, yet we may not even get any money from our mineral rights! If you have information, we will be most appreciative.

Got an Ad Valorem Clause in my lease but the best We could get was 7/8 of additional Ad Valorem Tax paid by lessee. Figured that was ok because royalties were more than 1/8. Also got that in ROW agreements but it's 100%.
Government is greedy so you have to protect yourself.
My husbands great grandparents owned the mineral rights in Belmont Co. The seven cousins would split the mineral right money. While I understand everyone who has a problem with paying the taxes while we have not. I find it very unfair that we were notified about the mineral rights the very day we had to reply and file. Even my husbands cousin in Belmont Co. only had time to get a lawyer but not file it in time. That is very unfair. Bonnie
