The first wave is heavy equipment and road grader. The next wave is gravel and stone for the access road. Then comes the pipes and the drilling rig. Then comes water tankers and fracking fluids. In between are the workers trucks.

Then the second wave include the waste water etc.

Think that about covers just X that by the seven already drilled and add the pipe lines that will carry the gas. For the pipe lines that means excavators, lots of pipe and strangers. Living in the country we don't have limits of lighting and noise.

You must have a unique set of circumstances at your property is all I can say.

There are laws on the books regarding dust, maybe you need to look into that.

You should be happy that they aren't building a windmill farm nearby...you would put up with most of what you are now, along with the everlasting 'beauty' of a windmill farm.

Just remember that bitterness never ends nicely.

Here's hoping that things improve for you shortly.

Oh, and just what kind of 'gassing' are you talking about?

The big green tanks hiss nightly. Have friends that have a home near the Summerset  wind farm.  My grand children call the noise as the dinosaurs talking.

Who said anything about bitter? I'm not I just think that when someone does business anyplace they should remember they are guests and should follow the laws.I'll just be glad when they are done thats all.

My Dr's told me that after they are done drilling and driving that maybe my breathing will get better. This year I might need to go to our camp for an extended period. With all the drilling, dust and exhaust fumes right now I am on three inhalers, steroids, two pills and a nebulizer. All I would like is a heads up so I can make plans to be away as much as possible.

Kathleen I feel for you , I can only imagine what youre going thru, compared to the peace and quiet of country life you so enjoyed in the past.  Your comments are the one's I have been concearned about.

Ok, sorry...it just seemed to me like you were bitter at the time.

What made me come to this conclusion is the fact that it has been raining in our area of Pa so much that it appeared to me you were overstating the facts when you said the dust is a major problem for you at this time.

Obviously you must live where it hasn't been raining very much at all, which is resulting in the dust problem. I know for a fact that there are regulations they have to follow for dust, which is usually solved by watering the roadway at times. You should look into this.

I agree that they should conduct themselves in a lawful manner. I'll be clamping down on them myself IF i ever see things like this. So far they have been really good in our area.

I was watching the news tonight and they were interviewing the mayor and sheriff of Wheeling West Virginia, about complaints of marcellus shale . Conearning the truck problems, speeding, running one deputy off the road and numerous complaints from the citizens. Another problem they were discussing was the damages to the county roads, and no effort to do the repairs.

Yes it has been very wet here. I do expect this year just like the past three summers when it is dry the dust the trucks kick up make me ill. Just a fact of life for me.

Seems to me you have a problem with the things mentioned that have gone on for the past few years. Being sarcastic does not open conversations as to how to make things better for all involved. Why does my mentioning my health issues (not caused by well) but irritated by the situation. We have to live here while the wells are drilled. I don't know where you live and I pray that you don't have problems.

Our roads have never been wet down. Since we don't have public water lines here and our township seems to ignore the situation the best I can do is hold them to the speed limit posted.

I thought you were talking about the problems with dust etc, that you were having right now, sorry I misread. I can understand your situation and just hope that things will be better in the future for you.

I'm serious though, I believe you could get the drilling outfit to water the road if you present your case to them. I'm not much for lots of regulations, however I do believe the state has some parameters set on dust propagation.  Better yet let your local officials get in contact with them, their job is to serve the  public. In the past I have seen country roads being watered just for this reason.

Our Township has no true protections for us. Over the years most of us have been content with limited government. Thus no zoning regs except in the small villages near us. Things are slowly changing and some regulation has been added.

I live on a farm on a one lane back road - I welcome the drilling and pipeline crews.  I can see the rig from my back windows and it looks great.  My house also vibrates from the drilling rig, the traffic is much more than it ever has been, and the roads are a mess.  I even temporarily lost my water well.  However, I am extremely happy to see the gas company here - I don't care if there is dust and torn up roads for a few more years.  I don't see it as a major inconvenience at all.  The peaceful country life will return along with royalty checks and natural gas for customers throughout the East Coast and beyond.  I don't even own much acreage but I am excited to see these companies here.  Yes, I've yelled at gas well workers driving too fast - funny thing is, they aren't the ones from Texas - it's the young local workers that have been driving like idiots.

In closing, the only reason I would want to see "my" rig leave is because that means I'll be closer to royalties.  However, I would like to see it back to drill more wells in the near future.

I am glad for those (yes my family is also involved) that are going to prosper from this. I also am glad that not everyone that lives out here has COPD or severe Asthma. I will be glad when they are done and life will be back to normal. Our road already has seven wells and I believe three more this summer. Not sure how many are on the other roads. that surround our place. I hope that everyone gets a fair deal here and that you are going to receive royalties that are based on the price they can get for the gas and not a set price. After all they now intend to export this natural gas to China and other countries on the world market.

So Carol I am glad you want to invite them back. Not everyone has had the same experience or is as healthy as you seem to be. I am not that fortunate. And before anyone asks no I never smoked.

Oh have they built the ROW and pipeline yet. We have a crew that goes from well to well to release the excess pressure. That is whatI meant as out gassing. Hopefully this will stop also soon.

Funny I don't want them stopped I just want them done and gone. The children to be able to ride their bikes again on our road in the nice weather.

As a reminder, these posts are coming from people who actually have access to the internet.  It's refreshing to get some rural voices on here actually living through it and giving some honest assessments (good and bad).      Trust me, plenty of Appalachia is not wired for 21st century communication.  If the gasman said he'd wire the entire county for high speed internet and cable lines, I'd roll out the red carpet for him.
