We don't have public water here either and the only internet access I can get is satellite or wireless (which is what I have.) Satellite tv is our only option too. I don't even have a landline phone anymore because every time the wind blows, phone service is out for a week. I love living in the country and while I do admit the roads are now in terrrible condition, I know the gas company will make them better than they ever were before but they are going to wait until the wells are completed - no use repairing roads that will get destroyed again with continued truck traffic. I agree it can be irritating with the increased traffic and speeders - I won't ride my horses on these roads anymore, but that will also change once the wells are done.
I wish my neighbors had internet access so they could get involved with the discussions on here. They know nothing about the drilling process, risks, benefits, royalties, nothing except what I tell them. I printed out our unit documentation from the recorder of deeds website and gave them all copies but they still don't understand how they are going to get royalties when the wells are on someone else's land.

What truly worries me is not the immediate migration of fluids, contaminates or other issues. It just makes sense to us that when you disturb what is down under all of us that things can shift and in the long term cause problems. An earthquake two miles down has been known to change water flow and water quality. This could very well be the problem with the fracking and as in the case of one well near us (less then 500 feet) that was subjected to explosions to release the NG from it.
I know from the past when they were working with the coal mine fires close to us that things changed. We were without water for four days, had poor quality for a couple of months and then things settled. All this from work on what is now our family property about two miles away.
So when someone says there are NO PROBLEMS in the drilling I remember the mine fire and subsidence that occurs from the mining and the remediation of those rare cases. So please understand that once burned twice wary.
Kathleen,
You are about the most negative closed minded person who is benefitting from a resource that I
have ever been around. Don't think you would really believe what anyone says and you always
want to argue what you believe is true. Really I don't know what your problems are but I'm sure
that other people are way worse off than you. The past has a way of coming back I know but, you
should try to see the benefit of this instead of always putting things down that you have little
knowledge of.
Negative & close minded. OH well most of my friends would not agree wit this.
A realist and willing to learn is closer to what most would say I am.
Homer.. Your comment towards Kathleen is a bit harsh dont you think...
I think she is just looking forward to the day operations are finished and back to normal again.
"Funny I don't want them stopped I just want them done and gone. The children to be able to ride their bikes again on our road in the nice weather." ...kinda says it in a nutshell...

Jeff,
I have been in on many of the threads that woman has posted. I have read and not
responded in public until this discussion. I speak the truth and try not to let attitude
and ignorance get to me but at times it does.

My name is Kathleen not "that woman". Where have I tried to get anything stopped or stated anything but my own experiences. I have asked honest questions. If that makes my attitude not what you like then I am sorry. Also calling anyone ignorant for wanting truthful information is a sad way to get more people on your side.
Others have given me honest answers and information. This site is how I found a company to test our water. Notice I did not go to a "ECO" site for this because I want honest testing no necessarily what you think I want.
So unless the site owner asks me to stop posting I will continue to post and ask honest questions.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
