I keep hearing I should join a land owners group. I am not from around the area but a while back I bought 40 acres in Eastern Vinton County on US 50. (almost in Athens and Meigs) Is there a group I can talk to or how do I find a land owners group? I have been contacted by Knox Energy to lease.(very very cheap) Can anyone help me with any info of where i can Go to look for a landowners group that may have been formed? I dont live in the area (3+ hours away) so any info on whats going on would be great!

The link below points to an APRIL 2011 article ...

http://www.theinfomine.com/2011/08/27/utica-shale-a-major-oil-disco...

The two maps in the article indicate that most of Vinton county has ...

a) immature oil (nott good)

b) very thin utica layer (not good)

These maps are best guess estimates and are subject to change as new wells are drilled.

The eastern portion of Vinton county could be somewhat promising.

The Utica Well drilling operations should progress west through Morgan, Washington and Athens counties to Vinton County. I see no Horizontal drilling activity in Morgan, Washington or Athens counties to date. Maybe later this year (2012) or next year (2013) for those counties. I am thinking, Vinton County will not see a Utica Drilling rig until late 2013 or even 2014, if at all.

Attached is a (big) PDF file from the lastest ODNR Map of January 2012 ...

Zoom in on Vinton County.

North-East quadrant looks  OK, maybe?

Another Utica 2012 Map of the Initial Shale "Play" Area  vs. the New Shale "Play" area is attached.

The Initial Shale Pay map was much more positive for Vinton County.

The New Shale Play map is not very positive for Vinton County.
