The symptoms the children at LeRoy High School in LeRoy New York are suffering from are very similar to the neurological symptoms shown in the movie "Split Estate". The movie documents what citizens in Rocky Mountain States have been living with for years, primarily in the towns of Dish Texas and Denton Texas.

Many of us have tried honest conversation or sharing information before - but some of us get tired of people who say they want the truth, but as the conversation goes on, it becomes obvious an agenda is at play. I'm not going to accuse you of that, but neither am I going to get pulled into a discussion that is a no-win for either "side".
So far you appear to be a person who believes in conjecture - what ifs, could bes, it might be possible. I base my beliefs on what I have researched, what has happened, what procedures are in place, the proven and what what I know from experience. In that case, you and I are probably just not going to find a middle ground or choose sites for each other that the other will find insightful or educational.
Mark, you said a few comments back: " You make hysterical claims without evidence that oil & gas drilling is going to kill your children, your cat your dog, hamsters and so on." I don't remember making any claims, but feel free.
"Hysterical" seems to be a favorite word for anyone who wants to know more. And as long as you, "the informed," continue to accuse people asking questions of "hysteria," the opposition will continue to grow. So go on sharing your "meaningful conversation" . And I'll look for real information elsewhere.
Just some worthwhile reading maybe. I can't vouch for it. But, I for one, will look more deeply into it. Having my water well tested next week.(ODNR recommended) http://www.texassharon.com/faq/
No one can deny the importance of getting your water tested. In fact Pennsylvania just increased the requirement for companies to test 3,000 feet out and many other states probably require it as well. It is a protection factor for both the drilling operator and the landowners alike.
TXSharon's blog is hardly unbiased. She is probably the most outspoken drilling opponent in Texas and her data is often and easily refuted with a little research. Her reason for blogging is suspect when her motive is clear; she asks on her page If natural gas drilling and fracking is so unsafe why doesn’t the government declare a moratorium until the rules are changed? The majority of information on her page is tilted in only one direction and with that one goal in mind.
Anyone who relies on ground water for drinking should have their water tested every year, regardless of drilling activity in their area.
I am no scientist, nor smarter than the average bear, but I do recall being taught in elementary school that the ground we walk on is in constant motion, albeit slow. That constant motion, churning, creates gas pockets. That gas, along with a high concentration of unwanted minerals, can seep into an aquifer on it's own, it doesn't require drilling to contaminate it.
And, ya know, it is also pretty obvious that if a well is going to be contaminated because of drilling, it is not the fracturing that does it. Sixty years of fracking, speaks to that. It appears to be more than clear, that if a problem occurs it is with the cement casing surrounding the drill hole. Everything that I have read concludes that properly encased drill holes do not have issues.
it is quite obvious that people who are anti gas are not knowledgable of the industry, they hear bits and pieces and panic. If you want to talk about health issues or deaths. What about all the car accidents, should we all quit driving? No, it is not the vehicle, it is the person behind the wheel. Lets look at the gun industry, I am an avid hunter and shooter, how many people are killed by a firearm every year? Is gun control the answer and should the US ban guns? It is the nut pulling the trigger. Health issues, how many hours a day do kids play video games, are on cell phones, watch TV or are on the computer? It is a proven fact that the above has created carpal tunnel, impared vision and weight gain. Should we just shut off the electronics? How many plane accidents are there? Should we stop flying? The list can go on and on. We must think smart about everything in our lives. We must think outside the box, our nation needs energy, our people need jobs, Most of the people who are antigas do not realize that property owners who have owned the family farm for generations are barely making it to keep their properties, the gas leases and royalities have been a God send for these people. Drive up in the northern tier of Pa. beautiful farm ground and farm houses that you cannot believe that people really live in them. These people have lived on a shoe string for years just to hold on to their family farms. These people are finally seeing the light at the end of a long dark tunnel of financial burdens. Don't take that away from them. It is their ground, they pay the taxes and the mortgages and it is their business what they decide to do with it. Not the environmentalist who is narrow minded. This is America and we must all work together in harmony, there is enough turmoil in our world. yes, we are all entitled to our opinions but the mudslinging is pushing it a bit too far.
Does our Government want the gas or not? Obama and his staff claim to want Natural Gas Exploration. EPA is under government control. What your saying comes across as a conflict of interests. Or are you stating that other competing lobyist are manipulating EPA to support their agenda to compete for the funding like a few others are stating on this site?
Here is those recent articles that I talked about earlier. I know, even if eventually substantiated, just one case vise the thousands of wells.

not to worry, White House is on it's way to shut down production of natural gas because it would create jobs in the private sector AND allow this country to be self sufficient in this area. Just posted an article with the details...
Sounds good. I will await my Farm well with no fear of water contamination or impact. A possible gas well within hundreds of feet from my fresh water spring does not boost the confidence level though. Thousands in royalties sound great, but not in exchange for my priceless fresh water. However, odds are in favor of pro-gas for now. Thanks for your insight.
Old lease/Yes I will test and ensure they test, so atleast they can pull up the water buffalo to the front door as a consolation prize. Yes, better than paying for the water out of the royalty money later. Neighbors and relatives here in Jefferson county Pa informed me that to get the water you have to sign a privacy admendment not to claim that the water was contaminated by them. Just heresay from neighbors, but the relative is more credible to me: but, just the same, heresay to you. Thanks.
My understanding is they only have to provide if they are at fault. And, as you and all others stated, they have never ever been at fault! The industry out of courtesy and good neighbor relations have been providing the water and the signing is basically a disclaimer that they are not at fault. Either way, I want the drinking water/bath water. On a positive note: I live near two conventional wells on my property and they have leaked, their entire paycheck on occasion, of natural gas for months on end over the last 15 years and we have not shown any negative side affects from increased exposure to this air contaminate that we would inhale on a daily basis. Now all I have to do is survive the consumption of frack water. Sounds easy considering it is a mile deep. I just hope the concrete casings hold until I die of natural causes.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
