I own 10 acres across from Moniteau High School in Cherry Township, Butler County. My family owns 100 collectively. I am interested in learning if my/our property is involved in this or not. Any help would be much appreciated.

July 28th, 2010 the NARO Board of Directors recognized the new NARO Pennsylvania Chapter! On the heels of that announcement came the 2010 NARO Annual Convention, held in the East for the first time ever at the Hyatt Regency in Pittsburgh, PA. Three days packed with valuable seminars, networking opportunities, a trade show for mineral owners, great food and very enjoyable dinner boat cruise in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Nearly one third of the 310 participants were from PA and many were new…

I would like to correct some of the statements made below.
1.) There are no explosions during the fracturing process. The rock is split open by pressure. This is somewhat analogous to splitting wood with a maul. I suppose by the previous arguement that we should not heat our homes with wood either as that involves an explosive process.
2.) The beauty of shale plays is that they can be treated with slickwater stimulations. This is a process of pumping sand and water downhole at high…

Saturday night I was the key note speaker at the 4th Annual Bradford County Trophy Deer & Bear Club banquet. I gave a seminar to 315+ on reclaiming Marcellus developments for white-tailed deer and other wildlfie. The crowd was great and I was impresed with the leadership of the club. I've received emails and phone calls with nothing but positive comments on whitetails and Marcellus! One great comment and trail camera photo of a nice buck from one of the club's founders, Roger Kingsley,…

I am an oil and gas lawyer with over 30 years experience and I own an oil and gas brokerage company with 9 other lawyers and 30 landmen working for me. We have been in the Haynesville shale for the past 5 years. I can only urge you to consult your family lawyer or the lawyer of your choice to help you negotiate a fair oil and gas lease for you. Do not pay someone 5% of your bonus. That is highway robbery and it is nothing I have ever seen in the old oil and gas states where my 30 plus years in…

I am seeing a disturbing trend of 5% becoming the norm for negotiation fees. Beyond lost income, I do see disadvantages with paying someone a % of your bonus and/or royalties to negotiate your lease for you. One, they aren't doing anything that you can't do with a good attorney reviewing lease language. Two, if the gas companies want your land, they’re going to find you. Three, there is an inherent conflict of interest virtually on the same level as the landowner and the drilling company.…

Watch the different residents talk about how their lives have been improved by gas drilling. THIS is the reality that I have seen from drilling in PA. Now you can see it too.

Video clips from our Marcellus reclamation field day in Evans City, PA are on
www.pcntv.com. Part one has myself on with a few others discussing accelerated reclamation efforts for wildlife habitat. Approximately 200 people toured my client's farm and well site while they asked questions regarding all aspects of the Marcellus play. The event was sponsored by Phillips Companies and organized by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The event was a huge success and…

Whether you agree with
Katherine Nadeau of the Environmental Advocates of NY or not, she makes a good point that the debate over drilling in NY is frequently framed as a conflict between dirt poor farmers who want to drill and environmental extremists who hotly oppose development. The true situation is neither black or white, but rather falls within the shades of gray between these two polar extremes. In this…

Wilkes University’s Center for Environmental Quality is establishing a water quality database in response to natural gas drilling our region. The database will provide information about the current state of groundwater and surface water quality and serve as a basis for monitoring impacts related to Marcellus gas drilling activity. The database initiative is the first of its kind in northeast Pennsylvania and targets private wells in Luzerne and Columbia…
