Marcellus drilling near Rural Valley

Consol Energy, who has the gas lease to my property, wants to drill marcellus horizontal on my property with 4 parallel legs (6,000 feet each leg) starting in 2012 (earliest date for drilling).  I have an attorney looking into the matter, but want to know several things since I have little knowledge of this drilling.  Aside from the attorney review, what should I be doing before signing the new lease documents?  I have Consol preparing a map of my property to show precise drill location, road… Continue

As a young geologist working at Wilkes University, I got a call from a private well owner about a problem with salty water. The site was located in the northern part of Susquehanna County. I did not collect the sample, but sent them a sampling kit to collect the sample and the homeowner mailed the sample back to me at Wilkes University. This program has know grown into to the Homeowner Outreach Program at Wilkes University -…

Mid-Weastern Pa & Mid-Eastern Ohio...Hot spots for the Utica??

Seems to me midwestern Pa would be a hot spot because it has the marcellus & the utica shale. I realize the marcellus isn't as thick, but still if gas companies can get two for the price of one...why don't we hear about more drilling in this area??

Lincoln's Thanksgiving Day Proclamation

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary…

Timing on NY state drilling

Does anyony have a rough understanding of when drilling on a large scale could begin in and around the Corning NY area? I am unclear if the politics have shifted after the election as some felt it would.

THE 60 MINUTES SHALE GAS MISINFORMATION - WHY IT MATTERS...

Minute 6:06 is where it all went south. Minute 10:45 is where I laughed out loud. Like an aged rollercoaster that you were foolish enough to hop on. I, however, continued to watch, hoping that it would right itself. But it wasn’t to be. Ms. Stahl, what did we do to you to deserve such “royal treatment?”

You can watch the segment here.

What I won’t do is be overly critical of the landowners who…

Expert says development of Marcellus shale fields offers huge benefits

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Development of the natural gas-rich Marcellus shale can create thousands of jobs and result in other economic benefits but must be done carefully, the American Petroleum Institute's chief economist said.

"We've admittedly been slow in terms of our outreach," said John Felmy,…

Help tracking down activity on owned land

Hi,

I'm Kelly, and live in Seattle. My mother was born and raised in Butler, PA, and her family line goes back on the East Coast more than 200 years. One of those family members, sometime in the 1800's, purchased land in Greene County, aware that someday the natural gas would be accessible. Now it is. My mother received a phone call from an attorney in 2007, he asked her tons of lineage questions, trying to identify who the last living relatives are for that Greene Cty site. She hasn't… Continue

The Wilkes University Center for Environmental Quality, through its Homeowner Outreach Program, has been conducting water quality analysis and education for the past 20 years. Even though our groundwater resources are one of our most important assets, there is limited data on the quality and quantity of regional groundwater. Wilkes University is establishing a regional water quality database and we are requesting your participation by allowing us to add the data from your certified…
