Natural Gas Extraction - a Good Government Paradox?

The natural gas “gold rush” has intensified debates around the world over how government regulates the oil and gas industry and protects the health and well being of its residents.

The debate pits those who see the industry as an engine for economic growth against those who fear that lax standards create a potential for natural disaster.

This Common…

It's Not About Up-Front Money

Dear All,

It's not the amount of money up front that you get, nor is it the royalty % that ought to rivet your attention. The real question is how much of whatever you get will you be able to keep? I just finished paying .43 cents on the dollar back to the government- that's a hefty bite out of the proceeds before any royalties have started to flow.

The expertise of knowledgeable accountants should have been sufficient. It was not. I have been getting all sorts of conflicting…

Reading Mete's and Bound descriptions

First blog post...

WHAT IS A METES AND BOUNDS DESCRIPTION?  It is a description of a tract of land by starting at a given point, running so many feet a certain direction, so many feet another direction etc., back to the point of beginning.

To locate a tract of land from a metes and bounds description, start from the point of beginning, and follow it out (do not read it backwards as in the case of a rectangular description).

A…

HOW DIGITAL PROCESSING CAN HELP YOUR BUSINESS GO GREEN

Electronic payables solutions like Oildex are helping businesses reduce paper consumption as well as processing time and costs

For decades energy companies have been awash in paper, with the desks of engineers and accountants piled high with invoices, field tickets, and purchase orders. As these companies have grown, so has the number and size of their business documents, as well as the cost to process them. The estimated price tag for a company to process a paper invoice (which… Continue

Doddridge County Wv

I know that there is leasing and permitting going on in Doddridge County WV, what can I do to have Doddridge County added to the West Virginia Counties?? I have asked this question before with no response. I have personally signed leases (recently) with Chesapeake and EQT, so I know that there is activity going on. Why Exclude Doddridge from the list? Unless no one on this forum cares, and if thats the case than I will shut up.

Division of Royalties

In one of the early landowner meetings held by Laser Pipeline, a representative of Cabot Oil said  that Royalties would be shared, depending upon the amount of land involved, by property owners within a mile from the drill sight.  Who and what determines the area.  How can a neighboring landowner get this information?  Is there a website that contains the answers to these questions?    Bob

Lease Offer - Northern Butler County - Venango Township

Signed Lease for Marcellus Only, $2,500.00 per acre, 15%, 7 years.

Many addendums to boiler plate.

Believe a good offer, especially since nothing else in the area, and at the present no infostructure.  I see that as a reason for the 7 years.

Water Quality Testing

Can drilling operations in your area have an adverse effect on your water quality? When and how should you sample your water to determine if it is being affected? What tests should be done on your water? These are great questions.

If you are concerned about contamination on your property and, more specifically, in your well, you can take precautionary steps by having your water tested by a certified laboratory specializing in water analysis. A certified laboratory is inspected, or…
