I will be going to the East side of W'boro (on 6) soon and want to know how much hassle it would be to go on into town, to the shopping center where Tops Market is.  Any back streets to avoid the main intersection?

Unfortunately there's no good back way to get to the Tops. The hardest part is getting OUT of Tops. They are putting in a light at the Pizza Hut, but it isn't working yet.  Making a left out of Tops is getting harder all the time; the traffic backs up from the light at the Wellsboro Diner in all directions. Sometimes you just have to wait for someone to let you into the traffic lane (sometimes there's hardly any traffic).  I go there all the time, so I don't let the traffic stop me, but then I lived in Philadelphia for many years. At least drivers here (even truck drivers) are fairly polite.
On a side note . I rember an old . old post ( pre gas boom) that showed a picture of many water truck in a line . I think  the poster wanted to let the area know what to expect , but was ridiculed because it was one truck photoshoped many times .  I have often wanted to take a picture of the curent real think and post it .
It's not a problem if you keep in mind you may have to wait 1-2 minutes to get through town or to get into the flow of traffic.  It's no longer a place you can expect to pull right out from as soon as you reach the turn.
Well I don't live there anymore so my memory of the roads and understanding of current traffic patterns may be wrong, but I'd take the Catlin Hollow road at the 'Y' through Whitneyville, go past the fairgrounds down the hill to the next split in the road, bear to the left up over the hill.  this will drop you down into Wellsboro past Smokey's Bar and the McDonalds.  Then you can hang a left and hope for the best.  Actually, I'm not sure where the Tops Market is, but once you hit Wellsboro you can probably take a side street.  Good Luck!
I should have mentioned that I'll be going in on 6 as far as the plaza where the Sears store is now.   Don't go to Wellsboro that much but iirc, the only entrance(s) to theTops (was P&C) plaza is off Main St.  No big thing, but was wondering if that might have changed.
Brian; The 'hang a left' part is where it gets hard. Making a left out of that road where the McDonald's is can be impossible at certain times. All the sand trucks fill up at Tioga Junction up 287, so there's a constant stream of trucks going through town.  It's easier to stay on the main roads where there are traffic lights, but you often have to sit for 2 or 3 light cycles (and I thought tourist weekends were bad!). The 'boom' has certainly changed this little town.

One must go right to go left..Like when Iived in the Fla. Keys during season.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IS THE SAME..

I don't think I'd go that far.  The only impact to my life (besides getting a big wad of money) is the increased truck traffic. My property sits on the main road to many, many wells, so there's a constant stream of gravel trucks, water trucks, sand trucks, and trucks with large machinery. I don't care much for that, but my property is still the same as it always was, and that's what I care about. Since I have a non-surface lease, that should never change.

Wellsboro is not new york city in the middle of rush hour. How in our everyday life we are always in a hurry to go no where important. Is 5 minutes of your time too much to ask to get in and out of traffic safely. If 5 minutes of your time is that precious start shopping on QVC.

Going around traffic congestion is not necessarily quicker.

Being from the NY Metro area (Long Island), I will say that I am getting a kick out of reading a thread where someone is planning in advance to avoid 2 minutes of traffic at one intersection! :-)

I do own a leased undeveloped lot in Wellsboro for future retirement. On our last visit, I left the Native Bagel with quarters in hand to feed the meter, only to find that the meter only took dimes and nickels.  In NYC, you have to use a special machine for parking now, and a quarter usually buys you about 10 minutes of parking time -- so credit cards are accepted.

Such tactics and the traffic are only 2 of the reasons I'm heading for the hills.

I respect what you've got, and even leasing was a tough decision.
