There is a horizontal clinton well in that I think Enervest drilled. The well site has 6 big oil tanks on site just like most of the utica pads I see. There is a really big pump jack. Talking to the landowner he said Enervest must have really wanted his piece of land for this well because he got enough money to buy a brand new tractor to try to lower the amount taxes will take. He said the well is a great producer but is always broke. The oil company is constantly there working on it. When I drove by yesterday they had a rig there like they were pulling some pipe up. An oil guy my family knows who is involved with some of this said that on these horizontal clinton wells the pump is actually in the horizontal part of the well. Enervest liked this well enough that they moved from there to drill another one about 10 miles away. I think it is very exciting.

Jeff, where is the well at that you are talking about. County city etc?
NW carroll county and then the well they moved to is in stark county off georgetown rd
They started from scratch. there is a Utica pad about 1000 feet away also.
yes.
Seems Enervest is now permitting several Horizontal Clinton wells in Stark County OH.
Any O/G Pros out there care to shed some light on what is going on?
Maybe better directional drilling and completion technology means that the drill bit stays more solidly in the formation for the lateral, and better stimulation is achieved, compared to what was possible a few years ago, thereby increasing potential recovery.
Maybe the apparent inability to get crude oil out of the Utica oil window means that operators with large acreage positions in that area are seeking other ways to monetize their assets. Remember, even in the most depleted areas, as much as 75% of original oil in place remains in the Clinton.
Maybe crude at +/- $100.00 presents the opportunity for acceptable IRs, compared to gas at +/-$4.50.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
