An extremely hot issue at the present time involves “post-production” costs and “deductions” that are being taken by gas companies from landowner’s royalty checks. Most landowners receiving royalty checks over the last few years have been receiving royalty payments under standard gas company “form” or “boilerplate” Leases. These “form” or “boilerplate” Leases do not seek to…

I am so proud to say that I am from Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The city is the home of the Little League World Series, an event where for the next couple of weeks our community comes alive and opens our arms to people from all over the world. The fever has already started this past week as division championships took place to decide which teams would get to play on famous Lamade Field in South Williamsport. It’s certainly an exciting time in our region.
Williamsport is also now…

Natural gas, really hydraulic fracturing, is producing major wins for America across the board. The U.S. Census for 2010 includes some fascinating numbers from the American Community Survey. It indicates there are roughly 57 million American households or one-half of all households heat their homes with natural gas. Add to that the high and ever growing proportion of our electric power and steam heat generated by natural gas and it becomes very clear just how dominant this natural resource…

Recently, we became aware of a list of supposedly tough natural gas questions floating around upstate New York. Assembled by another aging activist seeking relevance in a modern world and, more specifically, the small pond of Oxford, New York, these queries were, we heard, designed to stop pro-gas forces in their tracks. We requested a copy and, despite our reluctance to give any attention to our attention-seeking friend on the other side, decided the questions, if you can call them that,…

The University of Pittsburgh has recently released a survey conducted by them and titled The Pittsburgh Regional Quality of Life Survey. This survey was undertaken in an effort to understand the behaviors and attitudes of greater Pittsburgh’s citizens. The sampling strategy used in this project allowed the researchers to compare and summarize findings for the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding counties. Given that a majority of the counties surrounding Pittsburgh are developing Marcellus…

Well, its been said before and we will say it again. The water in Dimock is safe. It has now been declared by Cabot Oil and Gas, Pennsylvania DEP and the Environmental Protection Agency. The agency’s latest findings match its…

While we were still enthused from the excitement of last weekend’s Vote4Energy rally where thousands of New Yorkers came out to support natural gas, we headed to Harford Fairgrounds in Susquehanna County last weekend for the…

Yesterday’s Vote4Energy rally in New York was amazing! Shortly after we set up our booth, it started to downpour with rain we knew was desperately needed, but made us wonder if anyone was going to come to the event. We learned quickly you should never doubt the landowners of New York because they certainly didn’t let the rain stop them. Even as the rain poured down, we had people huddling under our tent to ask questions and discuss…

Our friend John Holko, President of Lenape Resources, has had enough. The Town of Avon, which is home to many of his employees and landowners, and benefits tremendously from the taxes and free natural gas he provides, decided they could take all that for granted and still play games with the anti-energy contingent by fashioning a moratorium that would grandfather John’s existing operations. Local officials naively believe that all John has to do is to keep pumping his existing wells, keep…

Journalism seems to have died in many quarters in recent years as some news outlets have taken to publishing opinion pieces as fact, made up details to fit preconceived narratives and thrown all regard for truth to the wind, regardless of consequences. The rationalization for this behavior always seems to be along the lines of “I needed to tell the bigger truth as I saw it.” This is, of course, nothing less than lying by another name.
Nevertheless, we see more and more supposed…

This week there was a presentation at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on the impacts, or lack of impacts, on animals as a result of natural gas development. The event was hosted by the Wilkes University Institute for Energy and Environmental Research (IEER) , which has typically done a good job of maintaining a balanced, unbiased approach in their research on Marcellus Shale development in Pennsylvania. The speakers for this particular event, Dr. Robert Oswald and Dr.…

Oil field opportunities for contractors and truckers are exciting. There seems to be plenty of good paying work if you have the skills and equipment. There is one more thing that you will need to succeed – special insurance to comply with contractual insurance specifications.…

No, Truthland hasn’t been shown in New York City, at least not officially, although a recent fear-inducing endeavor by Fox leads us to believe it’s certainly being watched in the Big Apple. This screening, co-sponsored by the Northern Wayne Property Owner’s Alliance and Energy Citizens, took place at the Beach Lake Fire Hall in Wayne County, about four miles away from the Fox family property (his father owns it). Around 100 people came out to watch the movie and get their questions answered…

Two more prominent anti-shale activists turn out to be natural gas users!
This is the third in our There Ought To Be A Law series of posts. We documented, in the first piece, the fact Tony Ingraffea, Mayor Matt Ryan and Josh Fox all used natural gas to heat their homes or offices. …

Scott Cline says:
"Regular readers of this blog will recall I previously pointed out that anti-natural gas spokespeople masquerading as experts is a rampant problem. It was the same story last night as the Town of Pulteney, Steuben County, New York was poised to vote on a proposed moratorium on natural gas development (one based on the Park Foundation funded Slottje model). I have a summer cottage in the town on Keuka Lake and have been following this issue since it was first raised.…

John Williams tells how he came to know the truth about the gas industry.
"My first experience with a natural gas company goes back to between 2005 and 2006. A landman approached me about signing a lease. I looked at what he was proposing, which, at first, sounded quite interesting. But, after reading over the lease, I decided it wasn’t for me. I was then again approached in 2007 with leasing at a higher price. This is when I thought it was time to do a little more research on what…

Like many who grew up in the Upper Delaware River valley, the mere mention of Gasland has grated on me like Roseanne Barr singing the national anthem. It’s not just the facts he got wrong or the truth he distorted. You expect that sort of thing from Josh Fox and it didn’t take long for Energy In Depth and several others to correct the record on the flaming Colorado faucet, Dunkard Creek and the rain rot present on some of the animals pictured. No, what was so offensive was the sheer…

Energy is all around us. It powers everything from iPads to eye exams, from air conditioners to automobiles. Yet energy production, especially natural gas production, is maligned by environmentalists and the media as dirty, unsustainable, and bad for the environment.
It's time to counter this rhetoric with stories about the positive values of energy production.
We want you to submit 1-minute (or shorter) clips of what…

Does anyone have any experience with them?
I live in Wisconsin and on March 2nd I was contacted by one of the company's representatives because they want to drill in the Sardis district of Harrison County, WV and apparently, I own a small portion of the mineral rights of one of the properties.
I received a copy of the proposed lease 2 weeks later and have concerns about it as well as the issue of past due property taxes I may owe. I was told by the county assessor's office to…

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
