Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Energy plans to introduce a new, user-friendly online repository of oil and natural gas research results at the Society of Petroleum Engineers' Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, to be held in New Orleans, La., October 4–7, 2009.
By providing easy access to the results of nearly four decades of research supported by the Office of Fossil Energy’s Oil and Natural Gas Program, the knowledge management database could ultimately help boost… Continue

Our camp has almost always had a lease on it for gas/oil of some sort. We used this for a little extra income. Most of these were in the $5 acre range. We just looked at it as if nothing would happen.
Then a lease expired and suddenly the terms got more favorable for us. Not great but better. this was a $20 acre year 1 then $5 for the remaining 4 years.
Then the boom hit midway or sooner. We got a one time option for $300 or so acre. Which is where we are…

Bill Powers has an
article
Highlights.
"The two most important factors in the production profile of a play are its decline curve and its reserve life."
"I believe we are about to experience a big mismatch between US reserves and gas deliverability due in large part to long-lived shale gas reserves."
"Given that an increasing percentage of US reserves…

Gov. Ed Rendell said more time is needed to see how the industry develops in Pennsylvania.
[In other words, lets wait until we lure them here and then we'll really fleece them]
An economic impact study by Penn State researchers said curtailment of drilling activity that would result from the imposition of a proposed severance tax would generate $1.4 billion less state and local total tax revenue between now and 2020 than if the industry is allowed to grow without the…

Drilling and Fracturing
Both vertical and horizontal wells are used in shale gas drilling and completion; however, horizontal wells are the increasing trend due to both environmental concerns and economic efficiency (DOE, 2009). Horizontal drilling allows more exposure within the formation to optimize capture of natural gas as well as reducing the environmental footprint of drilling activity (DOE, 2009). The United States Department of Energy’s recently released document on shale gas…

The
Barnett shale formation lies directly underneath Ft. Worth, Texas, a metro area of some 1.6 million. Urban drilling has become commonplace in the suburban areas there and even in downtown Ft. Worth. Any open field can be a potential drilling site for a gas well.

We are getting "local" as we continue to organize and grow this website. We have begun the process of narrowing our discussions down to the county level with the creation of
county groups within GoMarcellusShale.com.
The county groups will allow us to share relevant information to our locales; such as leasing activity. These groups need you. The value of each group really depends on our willingness to share what we…

Cabot Oil and Gas has recently started using
fit-for-purpose rigs. These have been optimized for pad drilling. They have a smaller footprint than conventional rigs and minimize damage to environmentally sensitive surface areas, and, all the while, get world-class drilling results. One of Cabot's Susquehana Co. wells just produced 1/2 Bcf of natural gas in its first 60 days. For the latest…

Chesapeake Energy has been intensifying its efforts in the Marcellus shale and is poised to take over the lead in production of natural gas coming from it. In an operations update issued at the end of the first half of '09 the company hi-lighted a couple of reasons that probably help explain why so many companies are shifting their exploration activities to the Marcellus. Assuming $7 gas and $70 oil (today's…

My farm is located in SE allegheny county, Elizabeth Twp. The original offer from them was 250 per and that was about three months ago. They are negotiable on the royality, they started at 12.5% Just today they offered 500 per and will still negitiate the royality rate. We must sign by 8-14 and that will not happen as they want me to discuss same with all the neighbors. I am under the impression they only want to do Hydraulic and I/we would want a deep verticle also. Any thoughts are…
