Has anyone been told by Kenyon that Chesapeake will only do "standard" leases with all "extra" conditions added as an Exhibit A and that if you refuse to do the Exhibit A, then there is no deal?

I am reading of offers in Carroll County for $3200 an acre?  I haven't heard much about the other test well being drilled up there, my guess is its doing pretty good.  It is way to early yet to be signing anything, the offers have more than tripled in the last year.  What you think is going to happen next.  Everyone needs to be patient and begin to understand the lease language and protect your ground.

Pa. fines Chesapeake Energy Corp. $1.1 million for drilling violation

This is very frustrating to see.  Chesapeake is supposed to be one of the best players in this industry.  How could they have defective casings on multiple wells that were allowed to be fraced and put into production?  Where was the state inspector?  Is there really no way to test if the casings are good?  If there is no way to to test these cement casings prior to putting them into production, then I feel we need to redesign the process, because obviously we can't trust that every driller is going to get it right every time.  I understand that this is probably a very small percentage of all the wells they have drilled or maybe even just one drilling contractor, but what can we do in our state/county so that we know that every well's casings are going to hold before they are fraced and placed into production?

Excerpt from the article:

"The DEP blamed improper concrete casings of several wells for allowing natural gas to seep into drinking-water supplies. In one instance, gas visibly bubbled to the surface of the Susquehanna River. The incidents occurred in Tuscarora, Terry, Monroe, Towanda, and Wilmot Townships.

Two Bradford County residents whose wells were cited in the consent agreement said they believed the contamination was more extensive than methane, which is not known to cause health problems. They suspect that chemicals [from fracing] are also polluting the aquifer."

I spoke with the Mineral Division, and Chesapeake is adjusting the location of the Jewett Sportsmans Club Well for some reason, so they will have to submit a corrected permit.

Also, they predict that next month there will be several new permits coming through from Chesapeake for Harrison County.

I see that Chesapeake just got their permit issued for it on May 11th. Right now it is a 40-acre permit down to just past the Marcellus, but if they follow their now-established protocol, right before they reach that depth they will change the permit to go deeper and horizontal, only at that point revealing the layout of the lateral.

Any news on the Sportsmans club well  ?     I am wondering how far along they are ?  Is the rig up yet ? Does anyone have any info as to the depth and length of any laterals at this well ?

May 10 has come and gone and there was no check in the mail from "WISH"gard.  It may turn out to be to OUR benefit...we just signed up with ALOV...$2250/acre signing bonus and 17.5% royalty...VERY good landowner lease!  If you're interested in getting in with this group the number is 330-337-3100.

There is a nice article on the Marcellus Drilling News website about the V&M steel mill in Youngstown. They are building a plant to produce well casings for the drilling boom in our area. The plants cost is over 1/2 billion dollars. That is really good news for our area . A plant like that should put a lot of people back to work. That is exactly what we need in this country more manufacturing here at home !!
