Very good Dan thanks,  we'll just have to wait and see what happens next. That well is probably only 2 miles or so from me so i'll drive by occassionally to check it out.

That all sounds right Scott, from what I see on the permit. The only thing I would add is that Chesapeake has now completely acquired Buckeye Energy, so this is a Chesapeake operation. In fact, any new Harrison County leases through Kenyon won't say Buckeye Energy anymore, but Chesapeake.

I just got off the phone with the DNR mineral resources. I gave them the location of the well and this is what they told me. The well name is North American coal royalty Buell number one.  The well operator is Buckeye energy llc. The well was approved Nov 16 2010 and is a vertical well being drilled to a depth of 9003' .  It is supposedly a test well passing through the Marcellus and Utica formations into a sandstone formation. I was told this is what they do to test the shale to see what it's production would be.  I was told the well is very expensive to drill somewhere between 3 and 5 million dollars .

Josh, in this picture it is just the cranes because they are in the middle of building the rig. I could see that the platform was basically there, and the tower was assembled and laying on the ground. Right now this site is permitted for just 40 acres and going down 9000' to the Trenton/Black River, which means they are exploring, and will be checking probably Marcellus and Utica on the way down. I'm thinking that whatever they install now will allow for horizontal drilling if they decide to get a permit for a larger unit.

Dan,  that is exciting to see,  you know if this is a vertical rig?

Chesapeake just moved in this week to drill about 3 miles from me. Kind of excited to see what they find...

My impression was that all expenses have been covered by donations.  It's more of an open bid process rather than a negotiated agreement.  They provide the terms of the contract...everything except for the price and royalties then open the bid.   I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you called for specifics.

JT,

Many of the land groups have an attorney doing the negotiating who usually wants a percentage of per acre bonus or royalty.  Is this the case with the Associated Landowners of the Ohio Valley?  If so did Bob give you any idea as to the cost?
