Looks like Aubrey McClendon's new company AEP (American Energy Partners) was the buyer of Shell's 50,000 acres, and Enervest's 23,000 acres of leases in the Utica. Some of these leases were in Harrison and neighboring counties. See the link.....

Jason, I'm not certain how these two facilities will work but here's an article that suggests that the Cadiz plant will separate ethane to be sent to Texas via the ATEX pipeline and the heavier fractions, propane, butane and pentane as a mixture in the pipeline to the Hopedale facility to be further separated.

Michael Neilson/The Daily Jeffersonian/www.buyjeffphotos.com MarkWest, already the largest processor and fractionator of natural gas in the Appalachian Basin, is building two new cryogenic processing facilities in Cadiz in Harrison County. Both are scheduled to begin operations in during 2013. A smaller, temporary facility has been in operation since the fall of 2012. The Cadiz complex will also include a de-ethanization facility where ethane will be removed from the gas stream and delivered into the new ATEX Express ethane pipeline that will run 1,230 miles from Pennsylvania to the Gulf Coast. The propane and heavier natural gas liquids will then flow via pipeline to a new Harrison County fractionation plant for further separation. Here, Marc Grantonic, operator at the new MarkWest cryogenic gas processing facility in Cadiz, works inside the control center for the plant. The plant, which purifies the gas of any acid gases, is expected to begin operations next week. It employs only Ohio workers.

I understand now, however the separation plant in Cadiz surely would not want to combine products in transit to hopedale....otherwise there would be no need for cooling and separation in Cadiz.  The main Mark West rail facility will be in hopedale, so I cant see how Mark West would not need at least two pipelines between the two facilities.  Just my two cents, not based on factual observation.

Jason, I think you're correct that only liquids, not gas, can be sent through a pipeline designed for liquids because liquids require pumping stations and gases need compressors. However, a liquids pipeline would be capable of transporting different products even without separation pigs. Here's a quote from Wikipedia

" Multi-product pipelines are used to transport two or more different products in sequence in the same pipeline. Usually in multi-product pipelines there is no physical separation between the different products. Some mixing of adjacent products occurs, producing interface, also known in the industry as "transmix." At the receiving facilities this interface is usually absorbed in one of the products based on pre-calculated absorption rates. Alternately, transmix may be diverted and shipped to facilities for separation of the commingled products."

I have read the Rigzone article twice regarding the use of pigs for cleaning, isolation, and pressure testing...... I am not sure how utilizing pigs would allow for the flow or both fluid and gas at the same time.  I cant imagine that Mark West wouldnt utilize at least two pipes between the two plants.

Currently Markwest is working to finalize the route through some environmentally challenging area of Consol near the old Georgetown Prep Plant south of Cadiz. But Markwest is terrible for sharing info about how many lines, when , where and just expect people to sign without much info.
