Construction of the driveway has begun on the Swepi Palmer well just east of Rt. 19 in Fairview Twp.  I sure hope for the sake of Mercer Countians that these early "exploratory" wells are successful.  For all of the industry lost in the Shenango valley, Greenville, Grove City, Sandy Lake and elsewhere in the county, the development of the shale could be just what the doctor ordered to revive our ailing economy and reverse the exodus of our young people out of Mercer county.  Good luck to Swepi, Chevron, Hilcorp and Halcon and last but not least, the land owners.  Drill Baby Drill!

Ron: Thanks a lot. I now have much better understanding. Really think O&G is going to revitalize Mercer and Crawford Counties. Hopefully Venango County as well, because my property is over there. It appears some people are starting to get bonus checks from Halcon.

Close enough Samuel. I believe the spud bit is a 24" hole drilled up to 50' deep. It's not a huge rig. I wish I had a picture. Here's a cross section of a well:

Poor typing: It was supposed to read Ron;, not on: Also meant "sounds" not sound. Oh well, I think you know what I am asking.

on: I do not mind revealing my technological ignorance. It sound like the Spud Rig is some type of equipment that might be used to drill a pilot hole; and that it is later repalced by some different and presumptively larger and more complicated  "rig". Can you or any other posters please enlighten me and anyone else who is as abysmally ignorant as I am?

The well on 358 in West Salem has been started. The spud rig left the other day. Has anyone heard of an Enervest deal yet?

JREwing; Its very common for them to get multiple well permits per pad. The Mayberry well near me is permitted for 10, the Hilcorp Whiting is permitted for 8. They won't drill all of them right away, depends on the company, what they find, infrastructure and more. Its common for them to drill two or three....helps cover all the costs of pads, pipelines, access roads and more.

Well pads mostly. Until proven otherwise, I'm considering well pads a single well until we hear and confirm multiple wells in on pad. I'm hearing things about the Chevron pad(s) southwest of Mercer but have no firsthand proof of multiple wells.

Are those permits are for well pads or for wells? Usually there are multiple wells for each pad. If these are all pads then there could be three or four times that wells drilled. Things are popping in both Lawrence and Mercer....hopeful Crawford and Venango will join the party soon.

Looks pretty darn close Sam with one exception that I'm aware of.  The Swepi Hoovler location in Delaware is not a well, but some type of land reparation I've been told.  The Swepi Palmer location is right on my way to and from work, so I'll be able to follow its progress daily.
