I had a visit from a very nice young lady with a southern accent named Donna, she was working with a Nicholson Land Services, who are working with Tidelands Geophysical, and then Siesmic Exchange Inc. to conduct the seismic survey.
This is along St.Rt. 88, St.Rt.5, and St.Rt.87 and apparently other roads around the area. The reason they are asking you to sign permission is explained in the letter.
It appears on the up and up, and i dont see any money to be had trying to charge them for access or anything on a landowners part. They are to be working strictly along the road.
The State Shale Coordinator just asked that they do this in the effort to fully disclose to the public the nature of there work so no one gets the wrong idea why the men may be working in front of your home.
This means to me that good things are on there way, in the development of this resource, as a project of this size is rather expensive.
By the way this young lady happens to be driving a big white SUV, so hold your fire, if she comes to your door.
Auty05 Did you sign the letter and grant them permission? Does anyone know why they need your signature when their staying on road and right of way? Doesn't sound right to me.
We have received a letter from Nicholson Land Services with Tidelands Geophysical (TGC), asking for signatures granting permission to conduct a VibroSeis survey along our road (State Rd South/ Cty Hwy 25. They are staying within the right-of-way and on the road itself. Apparently there is no liability on our part, and no inconveniences to us. Is VibroSeis surveys the same as Seismic testing?
Here's Precision Geophysical's website: http://www.precisiongeophysical.com/index.php
Here's a link to an explanation of seismic imaging:

Susan,
It's possible. I just noticed them from Rt. 6 and 534 running north to the Lake. 175 miles is quite a distance, and would go past Wheeling if they did a straight run. I'm not sure if this type of testing would use a circular routing. They had the area red-flagged every couple hundred feet for a few weeks. I wonder if Precision Geophysical would have any comments. These are all my assumptions of course, but this could be a benchmark survey to check the underlying geologic structures.
Did the seismic lines run from Route 87 and 534 North to the Lake?
Was anyone aware of the seismograph lines run up Rt. 534 all the way to the Lake by Precision Geophysical from Middlefield? I talked to one of the technicians who only said that they were running over 175 miles of line with seismic sensors, but he wasn't sure what they would be testing. The lines were run over the weekend and on Monday and were followed by testing trucks I'm assuming were sending "shock" signals to record subsurface features.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
