Can anyone tell me where they are coming up with this bonus money figure?  Since we all know that they are after the Utica Shale when will we actually know the true value of this formation?  I understand we are still in the probing stages so should we wait for some conclusive numbers before we make any moves?

I have now seen the revised permit for the Chesapeake well in Carroll county, and it is a 7000' horizontal well, just like they did at Buell.  It would appear that they are trying to methodically get a handle on the production of this area.

Josh, I don't know Chesapeake's "game plan" for Harrison County, but here is what I do know.

The drilling is all done at the Buell well, and they are making preparations now to frac the well.  As far as I know, they have every intention of putting that well into production.  I know some landowners who are in negotiation for pipeline right-of-way to connect that well to a transmission line 3 miles to the west.

 

Since the new year, there have been no permits issued in Harrison for drilling new wells, by Chesapeake or anyone else.

 

On 1-14-11 Chesapeake got a permit to drill in Carroll county down to the Utica.  So far it is not a horizontal permit, but that's the way it started out with the Buell well too - they changed the permit to horizontal later.

 

Phillips Energy got  a permit on 1-25-11 for a horizontal Marcellus well in Belmont County.

 

Oxford has a couple permits in Belmont too, one dated 1-27-11 and the other 2-7-11.  They are stated to be 8000 feet, but I'm not sure from the way the permit reads if they plan to end up in Marcellus or Utica.

 

So I don't know where the next drill site will be in Harrison. Does anyone else have any information?

A little background: Many of you have seen my posts on this forum for quite a while now. Like most of you, I came here to educate myself about gas leasing and to network with other landowners. I am also in negotiations with landmen for my acreage. The research I have done over the past few months has led me to the conclusion that the best way to negotiate is directly with the gas companies, and the best position for negotiation is being a part of a landowner group. Some of the groups out there are "for-profit", where the attorneys or landmen organizing them keep 6%-10% of the signing bonus. In HCOLG, the we landowners run the group, and we keep all of our bonuses and royalties for ourselves. Plus we are negotiating some of the strongest lease terms that I have seen offered in this county. I have observed other counties starting up these kinds of grassroots groups, but no one was doing it in Harrison, so after talking with many others including folks on this forum and several county leaders, I decided to start our own group here. Does anyone know what the game plan is for Harrison County?  I can see the Buell tower is down now, where a they going next?  Are the drillers just testing the waters to get a market value?  Or are they actually going to produce in our area?  I have read alot of our mineral rights are being sold to China, it seems they want everything we have.  Please give some feedback if anyone of you have knowledge of whats next for our county.

Consol plans to invest $35million to conduct a six-well Utica Shale exploration this year.

I would think the original Barnesville well might have something to do with drilling six more wells.

PetroChina just invested 5 Billion dollars in the Canada shale play.  Making this the largest shale deal ever!  That equalled to about $8000 an acre!  Just some food for thought...
