Sounds great to me James. How many rigs will be headed to Ohio from PA ? Has CHk started work at the Sportsmans club as of yet ?
Comment by James Harber on December 4, 2011 at 5:36pm

You are right about a gradual rig counts, and that PA rigs are on their way here. My son works for a casing company in NE PA who holds a exclusive contract with chk, he said that chk is moving all their rigs, but 6 rigs out to Eastern Ohio. In addition, chk is retrifitting 17 other rigs in Texas that will be here in Spring-Summer 2012. Those rigs are coming here for one reason and one reason only, that is liquids.....wet gas and oil. I think you may be surprised of how much more drilling activity will accelerate here than it did in PA from 2006-2010, the Utica is a completely different play than the Marcellus play. Look around you, there is much movement stirring with Carroll County to have more than 20 rigs by the end of 2012 drilling, Columbiana, Stark, Jefferson coming online soon, Belmont, Monroe and Guernsey. It's all around Harrison County, but don't worry, remember the Buell well is a history maker. If not, why all the commotion over chk wanting to push their way in on the Jewett Sportsman Club to drill 2 wells within 1/4 mile of each other on the Sportsman's Club with one off Hanover Ridge and the other off Briar Rd directly accross the main entrance of the Sportsman's Club. Mark my words, within the next year, Harrison County will light up like you've never seen it and things will never be the same. Jobs, jobs for anyone who wants to work. Where it took 4-5 years to kick off in NE PA, here it will happen much sooner. Hold onto your hat, its going to be a wild ride!

Thanks Peter. I think next year we will start to see a lot more activity. I agree they only have 4 or 5 years left to hold up the acreage they have and wells will need to be drilled to do that. Maybe Harrison county will be a part of the newly formed Chesapeake Utica llc. agreement. I believe they are to drill 50 wells a year for 5 years to satisfy them. Also Hess should drill some of their acreage in Harrison next year and maybe we can get a better look at how good our resources are. It will be interesting to compare production numbers from 2 or more drilling companies.

Scott, I can only predict a slow development until infrastructure, such as pipelines, separating and refining capabilities are put in place. Perhaps two years before substantial capacity is in place to handle the huge volumes that come from these wells. Of course CHK and other leaseholders need to secure their leases by production ASAP to avoid paying more bonus money when their 5-year paid up term is ended. We will see the Ohio rig count start to rise as the Marcellus activity starts to decline and natural gas prices turn up.

Here's a good article and chart

 http://nyshalegasnow.blogspot.com/2011/08/baker-hughes-rig-count-fo...

showing the Appalachian area rig count by state over the past seven years. Click on the chart and note how the PA rig count started a gradual ascent in 2007 and a steep ascent in 2009. It appears OH is just started on the gradual rig count ascent and will probably show a similar pattern as PA but four years behind. You will also note that the PA rig count has probably peaked and some of those rigs will be moving into OH.

Peter when do you think the heavy drilling will start in our area ?
Comment by scott jackovitch on December 3, 2011 at 12:33pm
Dan I drove by there and it looked like pipeline markers to me . I could be wrong next time through I will check again

On the question of why not much permitting/drilling in Harrison County. Perhaps the resource indicated by the Buell well suggests that the county is in the middle of the Utica play and needs little further drilling definition. It seems many of the new permits are in spots where drilling may be needed to explore the fringes of the play. Also, natural gas prices are very low and trending down. More production is not so urgent as defining the resource and obtaining leases.

What makes you think that a pipeline is going through the middle of the wetlands development?
Comment by scott jackovitch on December 3, 2011 at 10:38am
Dan I am not sure if it is one time or not. I will have to wait and see. They are supposed to start the surveying soon . The wetlands area seems strange to me. It is kind of funny that a pipeline is going right through the middle of the cleared out land.
