Does anyone know current status of earth acquisitions in mercer county? Rep for their company told us they are moving out of this territory because landowners are not cooperative. The information they were providing was not 100% correct so we were hesitant to sign without proper research.
Hilcorp has done north- south wells and I think directly east- west wells also. They don't always go diagonal.
Tracy, most of the well bores run from top hole to the northwest or top hole to the southeast locally. I have what will be the Swepi Mills pad right out the back door of my company, but we are 750 feet due west from the top hole location, so I am out of luck. You need to be slightly southEAST of the pad to have the best opportunity to be included in a future production unit. Hope that helps.
Hilcorp put in for 4 new permits in Delaware Township, which is great for my neighbors, but according to the unit drawings, the units all go North. So, the one pad is on my neighbor's property which is at the back of my property but my property isn't in the unit because of going north. I thought that the unit would encompass all the properties in all directions for at least a mile. My question is if the legs go north, and the well is a good producer, will they add more legs to the south? Is this normally how it is done?
Halcon to suspend drilling in greater region
WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA, EASTERN OHIO – Natural gas and oil driller Halcon Resources Corp. said it plans to suspend drilling in northeastern Ohio and northwestern Pennsylvania to concentrate on its land holdings in Texas and North Dakota.
The suspension, effective this year, is due to Utica shale results that “haven’t been too wonderful’’ in the region, Floyd C. Wilson, Halcon’s president and CEO, said in a conference call with analysts last week. He added that Utica, for the time being, isn’t going to be part of the company’s spending this year and that Halcon wasn’t going to drill any more wells near the underperforming ones.
Halcon holds 19 drilling permits in Mercer County and has drilled at least three wells in the county, according to the state Department of Environmental Protection. The company has leaseholds on 143,000 acres in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Great news for Mercer county! I hope it is a huge producer. I'll be watching this as it happens.
Hossack Road, Jackson Twp., Mercer County. Bowser. DEP has issued the final permit for Chevron to drill 2 wells at this site. Many new survey markers on site. Also markers at the corner of Hossack road and Route 62 to widen the road entrance from route 62. Chevron is also looking at a well site in Findley Township on Clintonville road about 2 miles east of Mercer. Chevron has only completed one site a year up to this point but possibly they are starting to move at a faster pace.
poor management from a Floyd Wilson company? But the old saying looks like a pig and smells like a pig?
It is reasonably clear that whatever Halcon is doing in Mercer / Venango County is in preparation for a sale of their leaseholds. Their Utica acreage has been moved from core to non-core. The sale may be in late 2014 but more likely in 2015 or 2016. If you go to Halcon's website they mention selling acreage in East Texas. They then say that this will likely complete their divestitures for 2014. In the next sentence they saying they are planning to divest themselves of other non-core assets. The company is in poor financial shape and is very poorly managed. See recent Seeking Alpha article on web for an analysis of HK's financial situation. Going forward much will depend upon the results of Hilcorp's wells and of the developmental wells by other O&G companies in Mercer County. If Hilcorp's permitted wells in Sandy Lake Township are drilled and those wells have good results, this ought to encourage the continued development and the extension of pipelines. Cautious optimism and patience are the operative words at this time. In the end supply and demand and the price of natural gas will determine how many wells are drilled and where they are drilled. As the price of natural gas rises, areas with less favorable geology, will become areas that can be profitably drilled. Progress in new and more efficient drilling technology can possibly lower the price of a well and / or increase the amount of gas that can be recovered when a well is drilled. IMHO.

AboutWhat makes this site so great? Well, I think it's the fact that, quite frankly, we all have a lot at stake in this thing they call shale. But beyond that, this site is made up of individuals who have worked hard for that little yard we call home. Or, that farm on which blood, sweat and tears have fallen. [ Read More ] |
